The present invention provides a multi-cup arrangement comprising a polypropylene sheet, wherein the polypropylene sheet comprises at least two cavities, the cavities each protruding from the sheet from a bottom surface of the sheet, wherein the cavities are separated from each other via one or more spacer area(s) on the sheet, wherein the spacer area(s) each comprise one or more groove(s) on the bottom surface of the sheet that are positioned to allow the sheet to be broken along the groove by bending the sheet towards the top surface, wherein the grooves are positioned to divide the sheet into multiple segments, each segment comprising one or more cavities, wherein each of the groove(s) has a maximum depth of ≥25% and ≤80% with regard to the thickness of the polypropylene sheet. Such multi-cup arrangement may be separated into individual cup segments by moderate manual force, whilst the arrangement does not undesirably bend nor snap under the action of its own weight.

Provided is a tape including a composition having a copolyester including polymeric units derived from ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid or a diester thereof and &#x3e;0.50 and &#x3c;5.00 wt % of polymeric units with regard to the total weight of the polyester derived from an oligomeric dihydroxy compound having a number average molecular weight of &#x3e;500 g/mol and &#x3c;5000 g/mol. Such tape has an improved tensile-impact strength and a reduced proneness to splitting during weaving.

A polymer composition for the production of shaped objects via selective sintering includes &#x2265;70.0 wt % of poly(ethylene terephthalate), wherein &#x2265;25.0 wt % and &#x2264;90.0 wt % of the poly(ethylene terephthalate has resulted from a selective sintering process as unsintered material. The polymer composition is a powder having a Dof &#x2265;10 and &#x2264;40 &#x3bc;m, a Dof &#x2265;75 and &#x2264;100 &#x3bc;m, and a Dof &#x2265;160 and &#x2264;200 &#x3bc;m. The polymer composition allows for the production of an article having a continuous use temperature of &#x2265;100&#xb0; C., and results in a low change of molecular weight during exposure to selective sintering powder processing temperatures. Further, the polymer composition allows for a significant reduction of the waste material generated during selective sintering as the unsintered material does not have to be disposed of as waste but may be used again.

A polymer powder composition for production of shaped objects via selective laser sintering includes a thermoplastic material, which is a polyester, wherein the powder has specific particles size distribution. The thermoplastic material has: has a crystallization half time of &#x3e;30 s and &#x3c;12 min at a supercooling of 50&#xb0; C. below the peak melt temperature; a glass transition temperature Tg of &#x3e;50&#xb0; C.; a peak melt temperature Tp,m of &#x3e;200&#xb0; C.; an extrapolated first heating run melt onset temperature T ei,m of &#x3e;5&#xb0; C. above the extrapolated first cooling run crystallization end temperature Tef,c; and a degree of crystallinity of &#x3e;10.0%. The polymer composition has a continuous use temperature of &#x3e;100&#xb0; C., and a low change of molecular weight during exposure to selective laser sintering processing temperatures.

The present invention relates to Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBC) having a body made of flexible fabric woven from polymeric tapes, and transport loops, wherein the body comprises side walls, bottom and top parts, characterised in that the fabric of at least one of the side walls and transport loops is woven from uniaxially-drawn PET tape having a density greater than 1.333 g/cm.

The present invention relates to a polyester sheet comprising a crystallized portion, said crystallized portion being in the form of one or more strip extending along at least a portion of the polyester sheet. The present invention further relates to a method for the manufacture of such sheet and use of such sheet.

The invention relates to a process for making an opaque and glossy film from a thermoplastic polyester composition, comprising the steps of a) extruding the polyester composition through a slot die, and quenching to form a substantially amorphous film having a crystallinity of at most 5%; b) rapidly heating the amorphous film to a drawing temperature in the range from Tto (T+50)&#xb0; C. while applying a draw ratio in the range of from &#x3bb;to &#x3bb;in longitudinal direction, and a drawing rate of at least 1 m/min to form an oriented film showing stress-whitening, wherein &#x3bb;is the draw ratio at which a transfer from a transparent product to a stress-whitened product occurs and &#x3bb;is the draw ratio at which failure of the stress whitened film occurs; and c) heat-setting the oriented stress-whitened film; the thermoplastic polyester composition substantially consisting of at least one crystallizable polyester derived from at least one aliphatic diol and at least one aromatic dicarboxylic acid. With this process it is possible to make a unitary, glossy, opaque film from a polyester composition that does not contain void-forming additives like high amounts of fine pigment particles or dispersed non-miscible polymer particles. The film obtained also has very good mechanical properties. It is a further advantage that the process can be performed continuously on conventional extrusion and stretching equipment used for making transparent film from polyesters. The invention also relates to an opaque polyester film obtainable by said process.

Process for making opaque polyester film

A process for making a shaped part from a polymer selected from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) by using a compacting tool comprising a die having a cavity and a punch having an outer surface. The process comprises the steps of: a) placing particles of the polymer in the cavity of the die heated to a compaction temperature, wherein the polymer has an intrinsic viscosity of at least 0.45 dL/g wherein the particles are a mixture of first particles with a particle size of 0.5-4000 &#x3bc;m and second particles with a particle size of 1000-4000 &#x3bc;m b) pressing the particles in the die cavity at a pressure of at least 3 MPa for 5-15 minutes while maintaining the temperature of the die at the compaction temperature and c) removing the shaped part from the die cavity. When the polymer is PET, the compaction temperature is 235-259&#xb0; C. When the polymer is PEN, the compaction temperature is 250-275 &#xb0; C.

Process for making highly crystalline shaped part from pet or pen

In an embodiment, a method of processing a polymer comprises: mixing polymer and solid carbon dioxide; introducing the polymer and solid carbon dioxide mixture to a hopper of a vented extruder; plasticizing the mixture to form a polymer melt with dissolved carbon dioxide; venting carbon dioxide as a gas before the die exit; and extruding the polymer melt through a die. In an embodiment, a method of making an article comprises: introducing a polymer powder to an extruder; introducing solid carbon dioxide powder to the extruder at the hopper; plasticizing and extruding the polymer and solid carbon dioxide mixture; venting the solid carbon dioxide before the die exit; extruding the polymer melt through a die to form pellets; and injection molding the polymer pellets without solid carbon dioxide to form molded articles.

Dry ice assisted polymer processing, methods for making, and articles formed thereof

The invention relates to a process for making polyethylene terephthalate (PET) from ethylene glycol (EG), purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and optionally up to 6 mol % comonomer, using a mixed metal catalyst system and comprising the steps of a) esterifying EG and PTA to form diethyleneglycol terephthalate and oligomers (DGT), and b) melt-phase polycondensing DGT to form PET and EG, wherein the catalyst system substantially consists of 70-160 ppm of Sb-compound, 20-70 ppm of Zn-compound, and 0.5-20 ppm of Ti-glycolate as active components (ppm metal based on PET). With this process that applies reduced amount of metal catalyst components PET can be obtained with high productivity, which polyester shows favorable color and optical clarity, also if recycling of EG is applied within the process.

Process for making polyethylene terephthalate

The invention relates to a process for making polyethylene terephthalate (PET) from ethylene glycol (EG), purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and optionally up to 30 mol % comonomer, using a catalyst system essentially consisting of antimony&#x2014;(Sb), zinc&#x2014;(Zn) and phosphorous&#x2014;(P) compounds, comprising the steps of a) esterifying EG and PTA to form diethyleneglycol terephthalate and oligomers (DGT), and b) melt-phase polycondensing DGT to form polyester and EG1 wherein the Sb- and P-compounds are added in step a) and the Zn-compound is added after step a). With this process PET can be obtained that shows favorable color and optical clarity, also if recycling of EG is applied in the process, and a relatively low rate of acetaldehyde regeneration during melt-processing.

Process for making thermoplastic polyesters

The invention relates to a Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container (FIBC) having a body made of flexible woven fabric, and integral handling devices, wherein the fabric is woven from opaque oriented polyethylene terephthalate (PET) strips having a density of from 500 to 1300 kg/mand a tensile strength of at least 250 MPa. Advantages of said FIBC include directly printability with the usual type of inks, giving excellent contrast and good adhesion, without pre-treatment like a corona- or flame-treatment. The FIBC based on the PET fabric also shows higher gloss; better UV resistance; better mechanical properties, like high tensile strength and creep resistance; favorable abrasion resistance; and higher temperature resistance than a conventional big bag based on polypropylene strips. The invention further relates to such a FIBC based on stress-whitened PET tapes obtained by a special drawing process.
