A boron filled hybrid nanotube and a method for producing and rendering boron filled hybrid nanotubes suitable for applications are provided. A mixture of a boron containing nanowire producing compound and catalysts is prepared and ground for a predetermined time period. The ground mixture is subjected to a vapor deposition process including passing an inert gas over the ground mixture after adding a nanotube producing compound to the ground mixture or after passing a reactant gas on the ground mixture in a reactor at a configurable reaction temperature and a configurable reaction pressure for a configurable reaction time to produce the boron filled hybrid nanotubes with enhanced mechanical, thermal and electrical properties. Each boron filled hybrid nanotube includes one or more boron based nanowires embedded within one or more single walled or multi-walled nanotubes. The boron filled hybrid nanotubes are further purified and functionalized using acids, and/or bases, and/or surfactants.

Polydiacetylenes (PDAs) and PDA/ZnO nanocomposites based on the monomers: 10,12-pentacosadiynoic acid (PCDA), 10,12-tricosadiynoic acid (TCDA) and 10,12-docosadiynedioic acid (DCDA) monomers are chromatic chemical sensing agents for selected organic liquids. Thermochromically reversible compositions include PCDA and nanosize ZnO having a particle size range less than 100 nm.

Polydiacetylene and polydiacetylene/ZnO nanocomposite sensors

Novel TCDA/ZnO compositions in which the ZnO particles have an average particle size less than 100 nm are disclosed. Reversible thermochromatic sensors employing the TCDA nanocomposites and methods of printing TCDA/ZnO nanocomposite thin films forming the reversible thermochromatic sensors using inkjet printing techniques are also disclosed.

The invention is directed to a method of forming, producing or manufacturing functionalized nanomaterials, and, specifically, soluble functionalized nanomaterials. The presently described invention also relates to nanomaterial-based composites consisting of a target material, which can include ceramic, polymer, or metallic matrices incorporated into or grown on nanomaterials, as well as a method or synthesis technique for the formation, production, or manufacture of nanomaterial-based composites through microwave-induced reaction.

Microwave induced functionalization of single wall carbon nanotubes and composites prepared therefrom

The present disclosure provides for a method of forming, producing or manufacturing functionalized and soluble nanomaterials, most specifically carbon nanotubes on a substrate, which can be used in the production or manufacture of biofuel cells. One embodiment provides for the coupling of biofuel cells with a nanomaterial, wherein the nanomaterial supports catalytic enzymes. Another embodiment provides for a biofuel cell which uses enzymes immobilized on nanomaterials as electrodes. Another embodiment provides for the construction of a biofuel cell, wherein the application of a microwave process, and/or an electrochemical technique, is used to develop a biofuel cell having nanomaterial/enzyme-based electrodes on a substrate. Another embodiment provides for a composite of nanomaterial grown on a substrate, coupled to tethered or bonded enzymes, which makes it possible to fabricate direct electron transfer electrodes. A method for producing a nanomaterial-substrate system is also disclosed.

Integrated biofuel cell with aligned nanotube electrodes and method of use thereof

A reversible, colored thermal indicating composition, whose chromaticity provides a measure of the elapsed time within specific elevated temperature bands&#x2014;the composition containing one or more polydiacetylenes (PDAs) in combination with ZnO alloyed with a transition metal oxide, such as ZrOand/or TiO.

Improved nanotube devices and systems/methods for fabrication thereof are provided. The present disclosure provides systems/methods for depositing controlled numbers of nanotubes with specific properties at predefined locations for the fabrication of nanotube devices. The nanotube devices may be utilized in a range of applications. A bio-fuel cell system that does not require a proton exchange membrane separator and does not need a mediator to transfer charge is provided. This exemplary bio-fuel cell uses enzyme functionalized SWNTs for the anode/cathode. The absence of a membrane in the bio-fuel cell configuration opens up the possibility of other configurations that would otherwise be unfeasible. This includes a bio-fuel cell where the anode/cathode are on the same substrate. Since the electrodes can share the same substrate, the configuration may be integrated with a circuit device on the same substrate. An IC and its power source may be fabricated on the same silicon wafer.

System and method for directed self-assembly technique for the creation of carbon nanotube sensors and bio-fuel cells on single plane

A method of fabricating a non-brittle, carbon nanopaper from single wall, multiwall, and combination thereof, from carbon nanotubes, using a vacuum deposition, high temperature annealing, and polystyrene polymer rinse process; which nanopaper can be nitrided by either a plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) process, or an by an electrochemical method, to obtain a useful chemically functionalized substrate, a substrate containing metastable N, N, and longer chain polymeric nitrogen clusters. Such nitrided carbon nanopaper can be used to enhance the ballistic performance of gun propellants, while reducing gun barrel wear and erosion thereof.

A nanotube device and a method of depositing nanotubes for device fabrication are disclosed. The method relates to electrophoretic deposition of nanotubes, and allows a control of the number of deposited nanotubes and positioning within a defined region.

A corrosion resistant coated fuel cell plate and method of making the same are embodied in a metal plate provided with a multilayered conductive coating and then with an overcoat which fills in fine scale porosities in the coating. In one preferred embodiment, the overcoating is amorphous graphite applied through a deposition process. In another preferred embodiment, overcoating is a thin layer of oxide created by chemical anodization process.

An exemplary embodiment of our inventive active coating system is corrosion resistant and includes a flexible sensor layer, a switch layer and a visual display layer. Operationally, the flexible sensor layer senses particular environmental conditions and the visual display layer provides visual indication of the condition(s) sensed.

A corrosion resistant coated fuel cell plate and method of making the same are embodied in a metal plate provided with a graphite emulsion coating and then a layer of graphite foil which is pressed over the coating. The graphite emulsion bonds the graphite foil to the metal plate and seals fine scale porosities in the graphite foil. Flow fields are formed by stamping the coated fuel cell plate.
