A method and apparatus for dispersing an additive from an additive cartridge disposed in a housing of an oil filter is provided. The method including the steps of: using stagnation pressure to disperse the additive from the additive cartridge; and regulating a flow rate of the additive from the additive cartridge by restricting an inlet opening of an outlet path of the additive cartridge, wherein a portion of the outlet path is formed in a surface of a first piece of a two piece connector providing fluid communication between and an interior and an exterior of the additive cartridge.

Additive dispersing filter and method

An improved oil filter, for use with an internal combustion engine, comprises a hollow filter housing defining a chamber therein and having an inlet and an outlet with a flow path therebetween; a mechanically active filter member disposed inside the filter housing in the flow path; and a chemically active filter member disposed inside the filter housing in the flow path. The chemically active filter member comprises a plurality of composite oil additive pellets. The plurality of pellets is interconnected to form a substantially integral permeable member, and the substantially integral permeable member is impregnated with an alkaline composition. The alkaline composition is provided to counteract acidic combustion products in lubricating oil in an internal combustion engine.

A method for dispersing an additive from an additive cartridge disposed in a housing of an oil filter is provided herein, the method includes using stagnation pressure to disperse the additive from the additive cartridge; and regulating a flow rate of the additive from the additive cartridge by restricting an inlet opening of an outlet tube of the additive cartridge.

A sealing grommet for a fluid filter is provided. The sealing grommet includes a central portion defining an aperture; a flange portion integrally formed with the central portion, the flange portion extending outwardly from an outer periphery of the central portion, wherein a first portion of the central portion extends away from the flange portion in a first direction and a second portion of the central portion extends away from the flange portion in a second direction, the first direction being opposite to the second direction; and a first protrusion disposed on the first portion, the first protrusion being disposed on an inner surface of the central portion defining the aperture.

A filter, comprising: a housing defining an inlet fluid opening and an outlet fluid opening, the inlet fluid opening and the outlet fluid opening defining a fluid path through the filter; a filter element disposed inside the filter housing, the filter element being disposed in the flow path such that fluid flowing through the flow path must pass through the filter element; and a dispersement device disposed within the housing, the dispersement device comprising a housing having at least one chamber for an additive disposed within the at least one chamber, the dispersement device further comprises a metering opening that is sealed with an oil soluble material the metering opening being in fluid communication with the at least one chamber when the oil soluble material is removed from the metering opening.

Additive dispersing filter and method of making

A method for dispersing an additive from an additive cartridge disposed in a housing of an oil filter is provided herein, the method includes using stagnation pressure to disperse the additive from the additive cartridge; and regulating a flow rate of the additive from the additive cartridge by restricting an inlet opening of an outlet tube of the additive cartridge. Also provide herein is an additive cartridge for dispersing an additive within a filter housing, the additive cartridge having a housing defining a receiving area for receipt of the additive; a fluid inlet path through a wall of the housing, the fluid inlet path providing a means for increasing a pressure within the receiving area, the fluid inlet path having an inlet opening disposed adjacent to an outer wall portion of the housing; and a fluid outlet path through the wall of the housing, the fluid outlet path providing a means for dispersing the additive from the receiving area when the pressure within the receiving area exceeds a predetermined value, the fluid outlet path having an outlet opening disposed adjacent to the outer wall portion of the housing, the outlet opening being covered by a shroud configured to deflect fluid flowing in a first direction away from the outlet opening and the inlet opening of the fluid inlet path is positioned to receive fluid flowing in the first direction; and fluid flow of the additive through the fluid outlet path is controlled by varying an inlet opening of the fluid outlet path.

A filter for filtering a fluid passing therethrough is provided. The filter includes a filter media having an outer periphery, an inner periphery, a first end portion, and a second end portion. The filter further includes a first end cap disposed on the first end portion. The filter further includes a second end cap disposed on the second end portion. The filter further includes a deflecting member disposed over a portion of the outer periphery, wherein the fluid is deflected by the deflecting member and a portion of the fluid is filtered by the filter media by entering through a portion of the outer periphery not covered by the deflecting member.

Filter and method of using the same

A method of supplying an additive in an oil filter, the method including: forming a dispersement device housing with a first chamber and a second chamber, the second chamber being sealed from the first chamber by a pair of dividing walls; sealing a first metering opening with an oil soluble material the first metering opening being in fluid communication with the first chamber when the oil soluble material is removed from the first metering opening; sealing a second metering opening with an oil soluble material the second metering opening being in fluid communication with the second chamber when the oil soluble material is removed from the second metering opening; disposing a first liquid additive within the first chamber; disposing a second liquid additive within the second chamber; sealing the dispersement device housing with a cap, the cap being configured to seal the first chamber and the second chamber within the dispersement device housing; and securing the dispersement device housing to a filter element of the filter, the filter element and the dispersement device defining an outlet fluid opening, such that fluid flowing into and out of the filter must pass through the filter element and into the outlet fluid opening and the cap is located between the filter element and the dispersement device housing.

An exemplary separator for coupling to a compressor includes a separation region substantially defined by an outer wall, part of an inner wall and an intermediate wall and an open region substantially defined by the inner wall and the intermediate wall and adjacent an outlet in the inner wall wherein the outlet provides passage to an air inlet of the compressor. Various other exemplary methods, devices, systems, etc., are also disclosed.
