A method for wireless communication by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving, from a network node, a message configuring a group of component carriers (CCs). The method also includes allocating, to each CC of the group of CCs based on receiving the message configuring the group of CCs, one of a respective first number of receiver chains, from a group of receiver chains available at the UE, or a respective second number of receiver chains, from the group of receiver chains, to maximize a total number of receiver chains for decoding the group of CCs, collectively. The method further includes decoding each CC of the group of CCs based on the respective first number of receiver chains or the respective second number of receiver chains allocated to the CC.

Dynamic receiver chain allocation

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide a method for wireless communications by a wireless device. The wireless device evaluates a plurality of antenna group combinations based on one or more criteria wherein each antenna group combination includes at least two antenna groups of multiple antennas and the one or more criteria involve a first performance value calculated separately for each antenna group in an antenna group combination under evaluation and a second performance value calculated collectively for the at least two antenna groups in the antenna group combination under evaluation. The wireless device selects a subset of the plurality of antenna group combinations, based on the evaluation.

Antenna grouping for multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described in which a user equipment (UE) may wake up from a sleep mode of a discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle based on receipt of uplink data. The UE may determine if an elapsed time between a prior receipt of one or more reference signals and an uplink transmission to the base station after waking up from the sleep mode is less than a threshold time value. If the elapsed time is less than the threshold time value, the UE may transmit an uplink transmission associated with the received uplink data prior to receiving one or more reference signals that may be used to update transmission parameters for uplink transmissions. If the elapsed time is at or above the threshold value, the UE may wait to receive the one or more reference signals and update the transmission parameters prior to the uplink transmission.

Discontinuous reception wakeup techniques

Apparatus, methods, and computer-readable media for facilitating multi-tasking and smart location selection during connected-mode discontinuous reception (CDRX) mode are disclosed herein. Example techniques disclosed herein enable a UE to perform multiple tasks during a same SSBS to reduce the number of wake-up SSBSs. For example, disclosed techniques enable a UE to perform RLM tasks and loop tracking tasks during a first SSBS and thereby reduce the number of wake-up SSBSs. In some examples, the UE may also perform the search task or the measurement task during the same first SSBS and, thereby, further reduce the number of wake-up SSBSs. Example techniques disclosed herein may also enable the UE to select which SSBS occurrences to wake-up for during the OFF duration of the CDRX cycle.

Methods and apparatus to facilitate multi-tasking and smart location selection during connected-mode discontinuous reception mode

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may be configured to receive a first configuration indicating for the UE to communicate with the base station using a set of receive ports. The UE may transmit, according to the first configuration in a first time interval associated with a first power state of the UE, sounding reference signals (SRSs) on a set of transmit ports corresponding to the set of receive ports. The UE may then communicate using less than all of the set of transmit ports for the SRSs based on determining to operate in a reduced power state. The UE may then receive, based on communicating using less than all of the set of transmit ports for the SRSs, a second configuration indicating for the UE to communicate with the base station using a first subset of receive ports.

Techniques for thermal mitigation and power saving

Aspects of mitigating throughput degradation during wireless communication include determining that a first transmission signal fails decoding at a network entity due to transmit (TX) blanking when a user equipment (UE) supports dual subscriber identity module dual active (DSDA) and is operating in hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) with incremental redundancy; determining whether a first retransmission signal for the first transmission signal fails decoding at the network entity; and retransmitting the first transmission signal as a new transmission signal when a determination is made that the first retransmission signal for the first transmission signal fails decoding at the network entity.

Apparatus and method for triggering a maximum power reporting event in a wireless communication network

A gain factor is used for calculating one transmit power relative to another transmit power. For example, in UMTS high speed uplink packet access, a gain factor called &#x3b2;ed is employed for transmission associated a given enhanced transport format combination indicator (E-TFCI). Conventionally, a gain factor to be used for a given E-TFCI can be determined via interpolation between two of the reference E-TFCIs to reduce signaling overhead. However, certain network configurations may result in one or more of the reference E-TFCIs that could be otherwise be used according to conventional techniques being outside of a valid range. In the event such a sub-optimal configuration occurs, interpolation and/or extrapolation schemes based on at least one reference E-TFCIs that is within and/or or is not within the valid range are used to calculate a gain factor for a given E-TFCI.

Determining a gain factor for transmit power control in enhanced uplink

Systems and methods for memory-efficient storage and extraction of maximum power reduction (MPR) values in two-carrier wireless data systems are presented. A wireless broadband device can operate under the HSUPA Category 9 standard, in which two carriers can be employed for data uplinks. Due to power saturation, interference, and other factors, transmission output power is limited to various levels depending on channel configuration. Under previous standards using one carrier, the maximum power reduction (MPR) needed to address those issues could be stored on the device, since the total number of MPR values was limited. With the introduction of dual carriers in HSUPA-9, storing all possible MPR values is no longer feasible. Platforms and techniques are disclosed which allow accurate generation of MPR values in a two-carrier system, utilizing the 2nd, 4th, and 6th moments of the complex signals to derive MPR values without attempting to store all possible carrier combinations.

Systems and methods for memory-efficient storage and extraction of maximum power reduction (MPR) values in two-carrier wireless data systems

Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate synthesizing a single baseband waveform from digital signals related to multiple carriers. Digital signals can be received relating to a plurality of carriers. The digital signals can result from spreading data symbols from transport blocks to create chip sequences, which can additionally be pulse shaped. The digital signals can be rotated in a positive or negative direction, such as according to a complex sinusoid or a negative representation thereof. The rotated signals can be combined or added to generate a single baseband waveform. The single baseband waveform can be converted to an analog signal, which can be up-converted and centered at a plurality of frequency carriers, which can be adjacent, assigned for transmitting the signal. In addition, optimizations can be provided to ensure threshold power ratio over the plurality of carriers for effectively transmitting jointly encoded signals.

Multi-carrier transmitter design on adjacent carriers in a single frequency band on the uplink in W-CDMA/HSPA

A method for measuring non-linear characteristics of a power amplifier is described. A calibration waveform is calculated during a testing procedure period. Amplitude characteristics of the calibration waveform at the output of the power amplifier are measured during the testing procedure period. Phase characteristics of the calibration waveform at the output of the power amplifier are measured during the testing procedure period. Pre-distortion techniques are configured based on the amplitude characteristics and the phase characteristics to be used during a normal operation period of a transmitter.

Systems and methods for measuring non-linear characteristics of a power amplifier

Transmitters supporting multiple modulation modes and/or multiple frequency bands are described. A transmitter may perform large signal polar modulation, small signal polar modulation, and/or quadrature modulation, which may support different modulation schemes and systems. Circuit blocks may be shared by the different modulation modes to reduce cost and power. For example, a single modulator and a single power amplifier may be used for small signal polar modulation and quadrature modulation. The transmitter may apply pre-distortion to improve performance, to allow a power amplifier to support multiple frequency bands, to allow the power amplifier to operate at higher output power levels, etc. Envelope and phase distortions due to non-linearity of the power amplifier may be characterized for different input levels and different bands and stored at the transmitter. Thereafter, envelope and phase signals may be pre-distorted based on the stored characterizations to compensate for non-linearity of the power amplifier.
