A tank for a heat exchanger includes an extruded tank section having a generally constant extrusion profile extending in a longitudinal direction from a first tank end to a second tank end. A first planar end cap is joined to the extruded tank section near the first tank end, and a second planar end cap is joined to the extruded tank section near the second tank end. Together, the extruded tank section and first and second end caps can at least partially define an internal tank volume. The first and second planar end caps are both arranged at non-perpendicular angles to the longitudinal direction.

Heat exchanger, tank for heat exchanger, and method of making the same

A frameless cooling module includes a first and a second shroud panel arranged at opposing sides of the module and extending from the front of the module to the back of the module. At least one L-shaped stiffener bracket extends between the panels at an intermediate location along both the height direction and the depth direction of the module. One or more heat exchangers is arranged within the cooling module between the L-shaped stiffener bracket and the front of the module, and is at least partially secured within the cooling module by being mounted to the L-shaped stiffener bracket.

Frameless cooling module

An air to air heat exchanger includes a first and a second cooling air flow passage extending over a core depth of the heat exchanger. A heated air flow passage is arranged between the cooling air flow passages, and extends over a first percentage of the core depth. Thermally conductive separators are arranged between the heated air flow passage and each of the cooling air flow passages. A first structurally reinforced section is provided between the separators, and extends from a cooling air inlet face in the core depth direction over a second percentage of the core depth. A second structurally reinforced section is provided between the separators, and extends from a cooling air outlet face in the core depth direction over a third percentage of the core depth. The sum of the first, second, and third percentages is greater than 100 percent.

A tube for use in a heat exchanger tube assembly is made by forming a round tube, reducing the diameter of an end section of the round tube, and flattening another section of the round tube. A transition zone is partially created by reducing of the diameter, and is further created by flattening the tube.

A housing for transporting a generally cylindrical canister configured to store at least one of a pressurized gas and a pressurized liquid. The housing includes a first housing section and a second housing section that is movable with respect to the first housing section from a first operating condition to a second operating condition. A heat transfer element is coupled to at least one of the first and the second housing sections to define at least a portion of a boundary of a generally cylindrical volume. The canister is generally fixed from movement with respect to the first and the second housing sections when the second housing section is in the first operating condition, and the canister is movable with respect to the first and the second housing sections and configured to be removed from the generally cylindrical volume when the second housing section is in the second operating condition.

The present invention provides a heat exchange system including, among other things, a radiator operable to remove heat from coolant, an air flow path extending through a first charge air cooler and a second charge air cooler, the first charge air cooler being operable to transfer heat from air to the coolant, the second charge air cooler being positioned downstream from the first charge air cooler along the air flow path to receive the air from the first charge air cooler and being operable to transfer heat from the air to the coolant, and a coolant circuit extending between a coolant pump, the radiator, and the first and second charge air coolers.
