A system includes one or more computing devices that encode spatial perceptual cues into a monaural channel to generate a plurality of output channels. A computing device determines a target amplitude response for the mid and side channels of the plurality of output channels, defining a spatial perceptual associated with one or more frequency-dependent phase shifts. The computing device determines a transfer function of a single-input, multi-output allpass filter based on the target amplitude response and determines coefficients of the allpass filter based on the transfer function, and processes the monaural channel with the coefficients of the allpass filter to generate the plurality of channels having the encoded spatial perceptual cues. The allpass filter is configured to be colorless with respect to the individual output channels, allowing for the placement of spatial cues into the audio stream to be decoupled from the overall coloration of the audio.

Embodiments relate to providing a conference for client devices with spatialized audio. Input audio streams are received from the client devices. For each client device, placement data defining spatial locations of other client devices within a sound field is determined. A mixed stream including a left mixed channel and a right mixed channel for the client device is generated by mixing and panning input audio streams of the other client devices according to the placement data. A spatially enhanced stream including a left enhanced channel for a left speaker and a right enhanced channel for a right speaker is generated by applying subband spatial processing and crosstalk processing on the left mixed channel and the right mixed channel of the mixed stream.

A system processes an audio signal using spectrally orthogonal sound components. The system includes a circuitry that generates a mid component and a side component from a left channel and a right channel of the audio signal. The circuitry generates a hyper mid component including spectral energy of the side component removed from spectral energy of the mid component. The circuitry filters the hyper mid component, such as to provide spatial cue processing including panning or binaural processing, dynamic range processing, or other types of processing. The circuitry generates a left output channel and a right output channel using the filtered hyper mid component.

Embodiments relate to audio processing for opposite facing speaker configurations that results in multiple optimal listening regions around the speakers. A system includes a left speaker and a right speaker in an opposite facing speaker configuration, and a crosstalk cancellation processor connected with the left speaker and the right speaker. The crosstalk cancellation processor applies a crosstalk cancellation to an input audio signal to generate left and right output channels. The left output channel is provided to the left speaker and the right output channel is provided to the right speaker to generate sound including multiple crosstalk cancelled listening regions that are spaced apart.

Subband spatial processing for outward-facing transaural loudspeaker systems

A device renders enhanced audio based on properties of an audio rendering system. For example, audio rendering system information of an audio rendering system associated with the device is used to determine an audio enhancement optimized for the audio rendering system. The OS of the device (e.g., a mobile phone) is queried to determine the audio rendering system information. The audio rendering system information is used to determine an audio enhancement, such as by querying a database storing associations between rendering system information and audio enhancements. The audio enhancement may include, for example, one or more types of audio processing (e.g., subband spatial processing, crosstalk processing, etc.) and particular parameters for the audio processing. The audio enhancement is applied to an audio signal to generate an enhanced audio signal that is provided to the audio rendering system.

An audio system processes a multi-channel input audio signal into a stereo signal for left and right speakers, while preserving the spatial sense of the sound field of the input audio signal. The multi-channel input audio signal includes a first left-right channel pair including a left input channel and a right input channel, and a second left-right channel pair including a left peripheral input channel and a right peripheral input channel. Subband spatial processing may be applied to the first and second left-right channel pairs. A first crosstalk processing is applied to the first left-right channel pair to generate first crosstalk processed channels. A second crosstalk processing is applied to the second left-right channel pair to generate second crosstalk processed channels. A left output channel and a right output channel are generated from the first and second crosstalk processed channels. The crosstalk processing may include crosstalk cancellation or crosstalk simulation.

Multi-channel crosstalk processing

An audio system provides for spatial enhancement, crosstalk processing, and crosstalk compensation of an input audio signal. The crosstalk compensation compensates for spectral defects caused by the application of the crosstalk processing to a spatially enhanced signal. The crosstalk compensation may be performed prior to the crosstalk processing, after the crosstalk processing, or in parallel with the crosstalk processing. The crosstalk compensation includes applying filters to the mid and side components of the left and right input channels to compensate for spectral defects from crosstalk processing of the audio signal. The crosstalk processing may include crosstalk simulation or crosstalk cancellation. In some embodiments, the crosstalk compensation may be integrated with a subband spatial processing that spatially enhances the audio signal.

Spectral defect compensation for crosstalk processing of spatial audio signals

An audio signal is compressed in an audio coordinate system using gain factors applied in another audio coordinate system. A first component and a second component in a first audio coordinate system is generated from a third component and a fourth component of the audio signal in a second audio coordinate system. An amplitude threshold defining a level for each of the third component and the fourth component for applying compression is determined. A gain factor for the first component is generated using a compression ratio. The gain factor is applied to the first component when one of the third component or the fourth component exceeds the amplitude threshold to generate an adjusted first component. A first output channel and a second output channel in the second audio coordinate system is generated using the adjusted first component and the second component in the first audio coordinate system.
