A method for external fish parasites, such as sea lice, monitoring in aquaculture, comprising the steps of: —submerging a camera () in a sea pen () comprising fish (); —capturing images of the fish () with the camera (); and —identifying external fish parasites such as sea lice on the fish () by analyzing the captured images, characterized by the steps of: —distinguishing between at least two different classes of external fish parasites such as sea lice which differ in the difficulty of recognizing the external fish parasites such as sea lice; —calculating quality metrics for each captured image, the quality metrics permitting to identify the classes of external fish parasites such as sea lice for which the quality of the image is sufficient for sea lice detection; and —establishing separate detection rates for each class of sea lice, each detection rate being based only on images the quality of which, as described by the quality metrics, was sufficient for detecting external fish parasites such as sea lice of that class.

A method for external fish parasite monitoring in aquaculture, comprising the steps of: —submerging a camera in a sea pen comprising fish; —capturing images of the fish with the camera; and —identifying external fish parasite on the fish by analyzing the captured images, characterized by the steps of: —distinguishing between at least two different classes of external fish parasite which differ in the difficulty of recognizing the external fish parasite; —calculating quality metrics for each captured image, the quality metrics permitting to identify the classes of external fish parasite for which the quality of the image is sufficient for lice detection.

System for external fish parasite monitoring in aquaculture

A system for external fish parasites monitoring in aquaculture, the system comprising: &#x2014;a camera () suitable to be submerged in a sea pen suitable for containing comprising fish, the camera being arranged for capturing images of the fish; and&#x2014;an electronic image processing system () configured for identifying external fish parasites on the fish by analyzing the captured images, wherein: &#x2014;a ranging detector () configured for detecting the presence of fish and measuring a distance from the detector to the fish is mounted adjacent to the camera (); and&#x2014;an electronic control system () is arranged to control a focus of the camera () on the basis of the measured distance and to trigger the camera () when a fish has been detected within a predetermined distance range.

A system for external fish parasite monitoring in aquaculture, the system comprising: &#x2014;a camera () suitable to be submerged in a sea pen suitable for containing fish, the camera being arranged for capturing images of the fish; and &#x2014;an electronic image processing system () configured for identifying external fish parasites on the fish by analyzing the captured images, characterized by a camera and lighting rig () having a vertical support member (), an upper boom () articulated to a top end of the support member () and carrying an upper lighting array (), a lower boom () articulated to a lower end of the support member () and carrying a lower lighting array (), and a housing () attached to the support member and carrying the camera (), wherein the upper and lower lighting arrays () are configured to illuminate, from above and from below, a target region inside a field of view of the camera ().

A method for external fish parasite monitoring in aquaculture, comprising the steps of: &#x2014;submerging a camera () in a sea pen containing fish, the camera having a field of view; &#x2014;capturing images of the fish with the camera (); and&#x2014;identifying external fish parasite on the fish by analyzing the captured images, characterized in that a target region within the field of view of the camera () is illuminated from above and below with light of different intensities and/or spectral compositions.
