A catheter shaft includes an elongate body extending from a proximal end to a distal end and including a proximal portion and a deflectable distal portion. The distal portion is selectively deflectable in at least one direction by actuation of a shaft actuator assembly. The elongate body defines at least one lumen extending from the proximal end to the distal end. The catheter shaft also includes a loop actuation wire extending through the at least one lumen and being operable to selectively adjust a diameter of an electrode loop assembly coupled at the distal end of the elongate body. The catheter shaft further includes a first coil wound around the loop actuation wire along the proximal portion of the elongate body and a second coil wound around the loop actuation wire along the distal portion of the elongate body. The second coil has a more flexible construction than the first coil.

Catheter including deflectable shaft and methods of assembling same

A deflectable catheter shaft section is disclosed comprising an elongated body extending along a longitudinal axis with a distal end and a proximal end. First and second pull wires can extend along the elongated body and can have a proximal end and a distal end. First and second pull wire liners can be disposed over a portion of one of the first and second pull wires, respectively. Each of the first and second pull wires can have a proximal end and a distal end. A first gap can exist between the proximal end of the first pull wire liner and the proximal end of the elongated body and a second gap can exist between the proximal end of the second pull wire liner and the proximal end of the elongated body.

Deflectable catheter shaft section

An elongate medical device shaft may comprise an elongate body and an annular electrode disposed on the elongate body. The annular electrode may define a longitudinal axis and have an outer diameter. The outer diameter may be greater at an axial center of the electrode than at an axial end of the electrode. Additionally or alternatively, the elongate body may comprise three longitudinal sections having three wall thicknesses. The middle wall thickness may be less than the proximal and distal wall thicknesses and the distal wall thickness may be less than the proximal wall thickness. Additionally or alternatively, the shaft may comprise an inner cylindrical structure and an outer tube. The outer tube may comprise a first radial layer and a second radial layer that is radially-outward of the first radial layer, the first radial layer, second radial layer, and inner structure having different stiffnesses.

A catheter with three distinct compression resistance coils, including a body coil and two pull wire coils, is disclosed. The triple coil system can provide maximal resistance to compression of the catheter's proximal shaft, as well as maximization of the curve angle that the catheter tip can achieve. Additionally, the tri-coil catheter can allow for a lower initial compression load and a more flexible proximal shaft. A gap between the outer diameter of the pull wire and the inner diameter of the pull wire compression coil that is equal to about 10-30% of inner diameter of the pull wire compression coil can provide optimal catheter performance.

Disclosed herein is a catheter tip sized and configured to fit onto a distal end of a catheter shaft, the catheter shaft having a shaft outer diameter. The catheter tip includes a base, a tip having an arcuate shape, an outer surface extending from the base to the tip along a longitudinal axis, the outer surface having a diameter at the base that is substantially equal to the shaft outer diameter, and an inner surface extending from the base, wherein the inner surface defines a first region having a first diameter and a second region having a second diameter, wherein the second diameter is less than the first diameter, and wherein the second region is distal of the first region and configured to receive at least one component extending beyond the distal end of the catheter shaft.

Disclosed is a coupling for use in a looped medical device, such as a loop catheter. A sleeve is fitted onto a distal portion of an activation wire and a shape-memory wire is positioned alongside the sleeved activation wire. The sleeve is welded onto the activation wire to hold the sleeve onto the activation wire and is also welded onto the shape-memory wire that is positioned alongside the activation wire, thereby affixing the activation wire to the shape-memory wire. Also disclosed is an activation wire for use in a catheter. The activation wire includes a proximal section, and a distal section having at least a partial loop. The activation wire includes a connection section on the distal section, where the connection section is linear, and where the external surface of the connection section has a higher coefficient of friction than at least some of the remaining portion of the actuation wire that is housed within the catheter shaft.

A catheter tip is disclosed comprising a proximal stem that comprises a lumen. An electrode wall that comprises a center cavity can be coupled to the distal end of the proximal stem. An electrode cap can be coupled to a distal end of the electrode wall. An elongate thermocouple element can extend through the lumen of the proximal stem and the center cavity and can be coupled to the electrode cap. The elongate thermocouple element can be turned around a portion of a longitudinal axis defined by the catheter tip assembly.
