A tool is provided for use in conjunction with a pressure support system that is structured to provide therapy to a patient to treat a condition of the patient by delivering a flow of breathing gas to the patient. The tool may be implemented on a portable electronic device or a PC and is configured to, among other things, provide customized/personalized education and feedback to the patient based, at least in part, on data that is measured by the pressure support system during the provision of therapy to the patient. The tool utilizes certain patient/therapy metrics, where each patient/therapy metric includes raw data that was measured by the pressure support system and that has been processed (e.g., summarized and/or otherwise manipulated) to form the patient/therapy metric.

Patient sleep therapy self management tool

A tool for use in conjunction with a pressure support system that is structured to provide therapy to a patient to treat a condition of the patient by delivering a flow of breathing gas to the patient. A respiratory therapy device is configured, such that it switches from one therapy mode to another therapy mode. The mode parameters for the latter therapy mode are based on usage information gather during the former therapy mode.

Configuration of respiratory therapy modes

Systems and methods for providing respiratory therapy to a subject respond and/or adapt to the detection of an occurrence of a respiratory event. For example, the pressure level of a pressurized flow of breathable gas may be increased responsive to the occurrence of one or more apneas. Based on usage information spanning more than one therapy session, such as the tracked pressure levels, a starting pressure level for a pressurized flow of breathable gas for a subsequent therapy session is determined. The starting level at the beginning of the subsequent therapy session(s) may be the 90% pressure level as determined during the preceding period during which usage information has been gathered.

Starting pressure for respiratory therapy devices

A vestibular stimulation system and method that includes a housing, a power supply disposed in the housing, an electrode assembly adapted to be coupled to the housing, and a controller disposed in the housing and operatively coupled to the power supply. The controller controls the delivery of energy from the power supply to the electrode assembly. An input element is also disposed on an exterior surface of the housing. The input element is manually manipulated to control the operation of the vestibular stimulation system. A display disposed on an exterior surface of the housing provides visual information regarding the operation of the vestibular stimulation system. A mounting assembly is coupled to the housing to mount the housing on such a user.

Vestibular stimulation system

The present disclosure describes a system configured to stimulate a vestibular system of a user while the user is in a sleeping position. The system comprises a housing; a power supply; an electrode assembly; a controller that controls stimulation of the vestibular system through delivery of energy from the power supply to the electrode assembly; an input element configured to control operation of the system; an auditory output device that provides auditory output to the user, wherein the auditory output is synchronized with the stimulation of the vestibular system to enhance an effect of the stimulation; a mounting assembly for mounting the housing on the user; and a sensor adapted to generate an output signal related to a physiological parameter of the user, wherein the controller controls the electrode assembly to cease delivery of the energy responsive to the output signal indicating that the user is leaving the sleeping position.

A pressure support system includes a pressure generator, a pressure sensor, a flow sensor, and a controller cooperating with the pressure sensor and the flow sensor to control operation of the pressure generator. The controller is structured to automatically identify a patient interface device in use with the pressure support system by detecting a change of exhaust flow of up to a predetermined amount across a predetermined pressure gradient of a pressure range of the pressure support system.

Automatic identification of a patient interface device in a pressure support system

A system configured to deliver pressurized gas to an airway of a subject in accordance with a predetermined therapeutic algorithm. The system includes a pressure generator that generates a pressurized flow of breathable gas and a circuit that communicates the pressurized flow of breathable gas from the pressure generator to the airway of the subject. In order to facilitate the delivery of the pressurized gas to the airway of the subject in accordance with the predetermined therapeutic algorithm, a resistance of the circuit to gas flow is supplemented so that the overall resistance of the circuit is at or near a predetermined level.

Resistance matching in a patient circuit

A method of delivering a flow of gas to a patient's airway via a pressure generating system and a patient circuit. A controller receives a treatment set point from an input source and determines an adjusted treatment set point based on the treatment set point and a comfort feature function, which in one embodiment, is not based on a physiological condition of such a patient. In another embodiment, the controller provides a respiratory treatment therapy during a therapy session based on the treatment set point and the comfort feature, which is modified automatically during a therapy session without user intervention based on a comparison of the treatment set point to a treatment set point variable. The controller controls the operation of the pressure generating system based on the adjusted treatment set point or the combination of the treatment set point and the comfort feature.

Pressure support method with automatic comfort feature modification

A pressure support system that delivers a flow of gas to a patient's airway via a pressure generating system and a patient circuit. A controller receives a treatment set point from an input source and determines an adjusted treatment set point based on the treatment set point and a comfort feature function, which in one embodiment, is not based on a physiological condition of such a patient. In another embodiment, the controller provides a respiratory treatment therapy during a therapy session based on the treatment set point and the comfort feature, which is modified automatically during a therapy session without user intervention based on a comparison of the treatment set point to a treatment set point variable. The controller controls the operation of the pressure generating system based on the adjusted treatment set point or the combination of the treatment set point and the comfort feature.

Pressure support system with automatic comfort feature modification

A pressure reducing valve for use in a system adapted to deliver a breathing gas to a patient. The pressure reducing valve is structured to communicate a flow of breathing gas to such a patient's airway during an inspiratory phase. The pressure reducing valve is structured to isolate the flow of breathing gas from the patient's airway and to 'dump' the flow of breathing gas and a flow of exhalation gas to atmosphere during the expiratory phase. The flow of breathing gas is dumped to atmosphere through a first number of ports; whereas a flow of exhalation gas is dumped to atmosphere through a second number of ports. Because the flow of breathing gas remains isolated from the flow of exhalation gas, less effort is required by a patient during the expiratory phase.

Pressure reducing valve

An exhaust port assembly comprising a conduit carries a flow of gas. A vent assembly having a fixed exhaust area is provided on the conduit for venting a flow of exhaust gas from within the conduit to ambient atmosphere. The vent assembly is configured so as to minimize noise associated with the flow of exhaust gas passing to atmosphere, diffuse the flow of exhaust gas passing to ambient atmosphere over a relatively large area, and minimize the area occupied by the venting assembly on the conduit.

Exhaust port assembly for a pressure support system

Apparatus for the non-invasive and specific activation of the vestibular system in a patient. Preferred embodiments of the present invention allow for the placement of a stimulating electrode in the ear canal while providing a firm and comfortable coupling with the patient. The stimulating electrode is a deformable material that contacts the skin in the ear canal. A stimulating device operates in cooperation with the stimulating electrode to generate a stimulation waveform for the stimulation of the vestibular system.
