Technology is disclosed for facilitating and processing cross-merchant promotions. In examples, the disclosed technology comprises identifying a first merchant and a second merchant as complementary merchants based at least in part on first transaction data associated with a plurality of merchants; generating a recommendation for the first and second merchants to participate in a cross-merchant promotion; receiving an indication that the first merchant and the second merchant intend to participate in the cross-merchant promotion; receiving second transaction data for a second transaction of the first merchant; applying the cross-merchant promotion to the second transaction based at least in part on a payment card number offered for payment in the second transaction; processing payment for the second transaction based at least in part on the cross-merchant promotion; and apportioning the payment between the first and second merchant according to an agreement between them.

Cross-merchant promotions

Disclosed is a technology for sending near real time transaction notifications to user devices of users of a payment service. Data associated with one or more financial accounts of a user and one or more user devices of the user is stored in a database associated with the payment service. The payment service receives transaction information and determines it is associated with a transaction involving a financial account of the user. The payment service generates a notification associated with the transaction, including at least a payment amount. The payment service causes presentation of the notification, in near real time, via at least one user device of the user.

Item-level information collection for interactive payment experience

Disclosed is a technology for collecting item-level transaction information for interactive payment experience. According to one embodiment, a merchant server can maintain a database including the information of financial accounts having a particular classification. The classification indicates that these financial accounts are associated with a payment service system. When the merchant server determines a requested financial transaction involves a financial account classified in the database, the merchant server transmits the item-level transaction information to the payment service system. The payment service system receives the item-level transaction information in real-time or near real-time and generates an interactive digital transaction receipt for a consumer.

Technology is disclosed for facilitating and processing cross-merchant promotions. In examples, the disclosed technology comprises processing transaction data for a first merchant and a second merchant that includes identifiers for merchant, customer, location, and item; generating a recommendation for the merchants to participate in a cross-merchant promotion based on a determination that they are complementary; facilitating a notification of the promotion to customers; receiving transaction data for another transaction of the first merchant; applying the promotion to the transaction based on a customer transaction history of the customer; processing payment for the transaction; apportioning the payment to the first and second merchant according to an agreement between them; and presenting a notification of application of the promotion on a merchant device.

Geographically targeted, time-based promotions

Payment card information of a consumer is protected during online payment card based transactions by equipping a user device of the consumer with a control that, when activated by the consumer during an online shopping session, causes the user device automatically to request and receive, from a third-party payment processing service (PPS), temporary proxy payment card information, and to populate that information into an online transaction web interface of the merchant. The temporary proxy payment card information is associated in the third-party PPS with a real payment card account of the consumer. When the PPS receives a transaction authorization request from a merchant via a payment card network, the PPS uses the consumer's real payment card information to authorize the transaction. The consumer's real payment card information is never exposed to the merchant.

Data security enhancement for online transactions involving payment card accounts

Introduced is a technology for processing transactions on behalf of a merchant employing a legacy system, where the processing includes managing inventory data and bundle pricing data associated with transactions occurring at various point-of-sale (POS) devices that include both legacy and non-legacy POS devices. Briefly described, the technology involves a payment processing system (PPS) working in coordination with a legacy merchant system. The PPS includes a payment processing database system, a adapter module installed at the merchant system, and a payment processing engine installed at a cloud-based server system. The payment processing engine, via the adapter module, can receive the most up-to-date inventory data and bundle pricing rules from the legacy merchant system. Based on the bundle pricing rules, the payment processing engine can compute one or more minimum-price carts that apply pricing discounts to eligible items for transactions occurring at the POS device(s) associated with the PPS.

Technology is disclosed for facilitating generation and processing of a customized promotion based on a set of factors. In some embodiments, the disclosed technology enables a particular merchant to incentivize customer business (e.g., increase customer traffic to a physical merchant location) by offering a customized promotion for placement in a receipt of a transaction with another merchant. The customized promotion, which decreases incrementally in value over time, is generated specifically for a product and/or service offered by the particular merchant. The product and/or service associated with the promotion correlates to a set of factors, including, among others, the customer's spending trend, thereby increasing the likelihood that the customer would redeem the promotion with the particular merchant in a second transaction. In some embodiments, a portion of the payment in the second transaction is distributed to the other merchant, thereby enabling both merchants to benefit from the placement of the promotion.

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for determining merchant and item ratings. One of the methods includes obtaining information identifying one or more purchase transactions by users at a physical location of a merchant. One or more statistical signals are computed using the information identifying the one or more purchase transactions by the users. A quality score for the merchant is computed based on the one or more statistical signals. A rating for the merchant is computed based on the quality score.

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for performing searches using an on-device directory. One of the methods includes providing, by a user device, a location of the user device to a server. Delta information is received that identifies merchants to be added to an on-device directory of the user device, wherein the merchants to be added are located in a geographic region that includes the location of the user device. An on-device directory on the user device is updated using the received information identifying merchants. A search query for merchants located in the geographic region is received. Information is obtained from the on device directory identifying one or more merchants that satisfy the query, and the information identifying the one or more merchants is provided in response to the query.

A particular item may be categorized based on delivery times of the particular item. In some instances, the particular item may be ranked across multiple merchants that are offering the particular item for acquisition. The ranking may be based on an estimated amount of delivery time to deliver the particular item, for the individual merchants, to a current location of a user. The estimated amount of delivery time may be based on a preparation time for the respective merchant to prepare the particular item, a courier time for a courier to transport the particular item to the current location of the user, and so on. Information regarding the ranking may be displayed or otherwise output to enable the user to identify and order the particular item from a merchant that satisfies the user's needs.
