A head-mounted device may have a head-mounted housing and optical components supported by the head-mounted housing. The optical components may include cameras, movable optical modules, and other components. Each optical module may include a display that displays an image and a lens that provides the image to a corresponding eye box. Optical self-mixing sensors may be included in the optical modules and other portions of the head-mounted device to measure changes in optical component position. In response to detecting a change in optical component position, actuators in the device may be adjusted to move the optical components or other action may be taken to compensate for the change.

An unobscured afocal three-mirror telescope can provide a two-axis gimbal architecture that is more compact, more lightweight, and less expensive than traditional coud&#xe9; path approaches. The telescope can create a real exit pupil and position the exit pupil on a 90-degree fold mirror. Two orthogonal rotational axes can intersect substantially at or about the center of the telescope's exit pupil and on or about the center of the last fold mirror.

Compact articulating telescope

A telescope is disclosed that includes a primary mirror configured to accept at a front surface incoming light from a field of view (FOV) and reflect the incoming light. The telescope also includes a secondary mirror that is coupled to the primary mirror and configured to accept the light reflected by the primary mirror and further reflect the light from the primary mirror. The telescope also includes one or more tertiary mirrors coupled to and disposed behind the primary mirror. Each tertiary mirror is configured to accept a portion of the light reflected by the second mirror. Each tertiary mirror is also configured to reflect the light so as to form an exit pupil and create an image on a flat image surface disposed behind the primary mirror. Each exit pupil does not overlap another exit pupil.
