The invention relates to a catalyst containing a BEA-type zeolite which contains iron as well as 0.05 to 1 percent by weight of sodium, the weight percentage being relative to the iron-exchanged zeolite and being calculated as metallic sodium.

Active SCR catalyst

The invention relates to a catalyst comprising at least two catalytically active layers, A and B, wherein A contains a carrier oxide and components A1 and A2, and B contains a carrier oxide and components B1, B2, and B3, wherein A1, A2, and B1 to B3 are defined as disclosed in claim. The proportion of component A1 in layer A is thereby greater than the proportion of component B1 in layer B, wherein the proportion of layer A with respect to the total weight of layers A and B, is greater than the proportion of layer B. The present invention is directed to an apparatus for mixing gaseous mixture components. The present invention likewise relates to a correspondingly applied method and to the use of an apparatus according to the invention for mixing components of the exhaust gas of internal combustion engines with a reducing agent and to a correspondingly designed reactor.

The invention proposes a particulate filter having a catalytic coating which contains two catalysts arranged one behind the other. The first catalyst is located in the gas inlet region of the filter and contains a palladium/platinum catalyst. The second catalyst is arranged downstream of the first catalyst and preferably contains platinum alone as catalytically active component. The combination of these two catalysts provides the coated filter with a good ageing stability and resistance to sulphur poisoning.

The invention relates to a catalyst arrangement for purifying the exhaust gases of internal combustion engines operated under lean conditions. It is proposed that a thinwalled, porous carrier be coated on one side with a nitrogen oxide storage catalyst and on the other side with an SCR catalyst. When the exhaust gas is passed through the catalytic coatings and the support material, a significant improvement in the nitrogen oxide conversion is achieved compared to a series arrangement of the catalysts on separate carriers. Wall flow filters have been found to be useful as thin-walled carriers.

The present invention relates to a method of removing nitrogen oxides from the exhaust gas of a lean-burn internal combustion engine by selective catalytic reduction (SCR) using ammonia. The exhaust gas is routed first over a platinum-containing pre-catalyst and then over an SCR catalyst. The ammonia needed for the selective catalytic reduction is added to the exhaust gas upstream of the pre-catalyst at an exhaust-gas temperature below 250&#xb0; C., while it is supplied to the exhaust gas between the pre-catalyst and the SCR catalyst at an exhaust gas temperature above 150&#xb0; C. By adopting this procedure, a very large temperature range for the selective catalytic reduction with high nitrogen conversion rates is obtained.

A process for reducing the nitrogen oxides present in a lean exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine by selective catalytic reduction on a reduction catalyst using ammonia, wherein a fraction of the nitrogen monoxide present in the exhaust gas is oxidized to nitrogen dioxide before the exhaust gas, together with ammonia, is passed over the reduction catalyst. The reduction catalyst contains a zeolite exchanged with transition metals and oxidation of the nitrogen monoxide is performed in such a way that the exhaust gas contains 30 to 70 vol. % of nitrogen dioxide before contact with the reduction catalyst.

A structured catalyst for selective reduction of nitrogen oxides with ammonia using an ammonia-supplying compound. The catalyst is preferably used for exhaust gas treatment of diesel vehicles powered by diesel motors. The catalyst is characterized by the fact that it contains a reduction catalyst for selective reduction of nitrogen oxides with ammonia and a hydrolysis catalyst for the hydrolysis of urea, where the hydrolysis catalyst is applied in the form of a coating onto the reduction catalyst. By this arrangement of the two catalytic functions in one catalyst the exhaust gas system can be made very compactly and space saving. Moreover, advantageous synergistic effects result from the direct contact of the hydrolysis catalyst and the reduction catalyst.
