Saturated bicyclic lactam acids and their derivatives are useful in the treatment of senility and for reversing amnesia. Pharmaceutical compositions including these compounds, a method of preparing the compounds, and a method of treating senility and reversing amnesia are also disclosed.

Saturated bicyclic lactam acids and derivatives as cognition activators

A class of novel saturated, fused-ring, tricyclic, nitrogen-containing diones are useful as agents in treating electro-convulsive shock-induced amnesia. A method of preparing the compounds, pharmaceutical compositions including the compounds, and a method of treating amnesia are disclosed.

Reversing amnesia with saturated tricyclic nitrogen-containing diones

Quaternary derivatives of N-(substituted-aminoalkyl)-2-oxo-1-pyrrolidineacetamide are disclosed. These compounds are useful for treating senility, for enhancing memory and for reversing amnesia.

N-(Substituted-aminoalkyl)-2-oxo-1-pyrrolidineacetamides

Lower alkyl 2-oxo-4-phenyl-1-pyrrolidineacetic acid esters which are useful as pharmacological agents, especially cognition activators, are disclosed. They can be produced by reacting 4-phenyl-2-pyrrolidinone with a lower alkyl haloacetate in the presence of a strong base.
