Braking device comprising a brake motor provided with a mechanically actuated device of the rotary type (a mechanism of the screw-and-nut type with reversible pitch) and a control jack of the 'spring cylinder' type connected by a power transmission mechanism to this actuation device. According to the invention, the power transmission mechanism comprises a cam (50) keyed on the spindle of the actuation mechanism of the brake motor (10), and a cable (52) attached at one of its ends to the rod (38) of the control jack (30) and at its other end held wound round the cam, the profile of the latter being determined so as to compensate the weakening of the drive force generated by the spring of the jack during its relaxation. The invention is used especially in brake systems for heavy vehicles.

Braking device with mechanical actuation

The servomotor, of the vacuum type, comprises a housing composed of two shells, each comprising a peripheral sleeve and a side end wall. The shells include a connecting web between the sleeve and the side wall, parabolic in profile, due to which the resultant of shearing and traction stresses is minimal, which allows the thickness of the shell material to be significantly reduced. Applications are braking systems with vacuum servomotor for motor vehicles.

Servomotor for assisted braking

A spot-type brake comprises a caliper movable during braking to engage a pair of friction elements with a rotor. The rotor comprises a first part and a second part. The first part is engageable with radially outer portions of the pair of friction elements and the second part is engageable with radially inner portions of the pair of friction elements. The rotor parts and the pair of friction elements are V-shaped with the rotor parts forming a spacing therebetween to receive a movable support which urges one of the pair of friction elements into engagement with the rotor and a fixed support opposing the one friction element.

Spot-type brake

A disc brake including a hydraulic actuator and a mechanical actuator is disclosed. The hydraulic actuator comprises a piston and the mechanical actuator comprises a push rod adapted to engage said piston through a self adjusting device, said adjusting device including a nut received on a threaded rod associated to said push rod, a thrust bearing capable to rotate said nut relative to said push rod on movement of said piston in a brake applying direction, and a clutch spring adapted to prevent rotation of the nut in the opposite direction. The thrust bearing comprises a cage which cooperates with the piston through a circumferential lost-motion connection adapted to limit rotation of said nut relative to said threaded rod to a predetermined angle on each hydraulic brake application.

Self adjusting device for a disc brake

A disc brake of the type comprising a caliper or frame member straddling a rotary disc and slidable on two circumferentially spaced surfaces of a fixed member by at least one key. The key is associated to one of the members and defines a guide surface which slidably cooperates with a corresponding surface defined on the other member. According to the invention, the guide surface comprises at least one assembly of relatively small surfaces separated by two series of parallel and equispaced grooves, and a smooth continuous surface forming a frame circumscribing the assembly of surfaces.

Disc brake and a guide key for the same

A hydraulic amplifier comprising a housing wherein is defined a pressure chamber. A servo piston is slidable in a bore opening onto the pressure chamber. The amplifier also comprises a set of control valve connectible to a high pressure fluid source and a low pressure reservoir. An operator operated control rod has one end projecting into the chamber. In the pressure chamber is mounted a lever mechanism comprising a lever having one end pivoted on a pin associated with the housing, and the other end is moved by the control rod. The lever mechanism also comprises a rocker member which is pivoted on the lever and whose respective ends can bear on the servo piston and are adapted to move at least one valve in the control valve set. The pin is slidable relative to the housing and is urged by resilient means into an idle position. The control valve set comprises an exhaust valve operated by a rocker member, and a high pressure valve operated in response to the movement of the pin from its idle position.

Hydraulic amplifier

A braking correction device comprises two correcting valves of which the inlets are separately connectible to two independent braking pressure sources and the outlets to two independent sets of vehicle brake actuators, each valve having a piston and being capable of controlling the pressures at its inlet and outlet in accordance with a predetermined relationship. The device is also provided with a mechanical control comprising an input member subject to the force generated by resilient return means, two projections arranged in parallel, each of which projection moving on unisson with a corresponding valve piston, a rocker member rotatable relative to the input member, the two projections cooperating with one face of the rocker member on opposite sides of its axis of rotation, a block of imcompressible elastomeric material, said block having substantially the shape of half a body of revolution and being rotatable non-deformably in a complementary cavity formed in a rigid cup fixed to the input member, the other face of the rocker member having a surface capable of making contact with the block bearing on the diametrical section of the half body of revolution.

Braking correction device

A drum brake of the type comprising two brake shoes adapted to be spaced apart by a wheel cylinder. The distance between the ends of the shoes which cooperate with the wheel cylinder is automatically increased to compensate for the wear of the brake linings by an adjusting device which defines the rest position of the ends. The device comprises an extensible member of the screw and nut type, two annular resilient members which grippingly engage corresponding cylindrical portions of the extensible member, and a cam which rotates the resilient members one relative to the other in a first direction upon a brake application and in the opposite direction upon brake release to limit extension of the extensible member to a predetermined value.

Automatic adjusting device for a drum brake

The invention concerns a drum brake of the type comprising brake actuator inserted between two adjacent ends of two brake shoes, the opposite ends thereof cooperating with a fixed anchoring member. An adjusting lever is pivotable relative to one of the shoes upon wear of the linings carried by the shoes, to control relative rotation between two elements of an extensible member. According to the invention, a resilient means normally connect the extensible member to the one shoe and an adjustment limitor are provided to connect the extensible member to the lever when the relative motion between the free end of the lever and the one shoe exceeds a predetermined value.

Automatic slack adjuster for drum brakes

In a disc brake in which a movable member is slidably mounted on a fixed support member by means of at least one column at least one protecting device is associated to each column to prevent various particles such as mud, grease, etc. to be deposited on the sliding surfaces of the column. The protecting device includes a seal of resilient material which cooperates with the outside surface of the column by means of at least one lip, and which carries a rigid scraper element level with the outside surface of the column. The scraper element is mounted outside with respect to the lip of the seal to clean off the particles of solid materials in a first stage, the liquid particles being retained by the lip in a second stage.
