In a shuttleless loom in which the weft thread is inserted by an entry needle, the yarn is transferred at the center of the width of cloth to an exit needle which carries an exit clip. The stationary clip body has a wedge-shaped end which cooperates with a hook carried by a movable portion for clamping the weft thread. The yarn is held between two clamping facets carried by the wedge-shaped end of the clip body and by the hook, the facets being inclined with respect to the plane of displacement of the movable portion.

The feeding system may be adapted to move unidirectionaly or alternately, or continuously or intermittently. This system is equipped with gripping devices that move through a predetermined path which is outside the trajectory of the insertion device. As the grippers move through their path the pull the pick or weft thread such that it is fed into the insertion mechanism.

A regulating device for actuating the regulating element of the speed-changing unit of a warp-beam let-off motion as a function of the position of a lever of the balance for measuring the tension of warp threads. A jamming member is engaged over a bar which is driven in reciprocating motion by an eccentric. The jamming member is capable of selective sliding along the bar or jamming against said bar according to the orientation given to the jamming member by a rod attached to the balance lever. The energy required for regulating the speed-changing unit is supplied by a shaft which is driven by the main motor of the loom and drives the bar in reciprocating motion.

Each odd-numbered heddle frame is actuated by a pair of rockers mounted on two horizontal axes. Each even-numbered heddle frame is actuated by a pair of rockers which are mounted on two other horizontal axes. The resultant increase in the pitch between rockers on one and the same axis permits the use of the actuating device for heddle frames of small thickness.

The fabric produced by a loom is wound on a drum which is driven in rotation from the fabric take-up roller by means of a friction coupling, the friction being adjustable by means of a regulating nut. A tensioning roller which is capable of displacement under the action of the tension of the fabric actuates a pawl by means of a mechanism comprising two elbowed levers and a connecting-rod. The pawl is capable of engaging in teeth carried by the regulating nut in order to lock the nut in position and tighten-up the friction coupling when the tension of the fabric decreases.

In a shuttleless weaving loom of the double layer type, the position of the heald eyes and the relative displacement of the harness shafts which carry the eyes are such that, in the bottom position of the lower layers, the center-lines of the segments of the two layers, which are located between the rearmost position of the weaving loom and its intermediate position corresponding to the beginning of introduction of the weft threads into the sheds, both pass substantially through the pivotal axis of the reed.

A method and means for inserting the weft threads in a shuttleless weaving machine which are particularly advantageous. A weft thread reserve is formed between a selvedge of the fabric and the path of an inserting carrier, the weft thread is cut near the selvedge and pulled by the inserting carrier to the middle of the shed in the form of a loop having one arm constituted by the free end portion of the weft thread reserve and the other arm by the portion of weft thread connected to an outside weft, supply package, the apex of the thread loop in the inserting carrier is clamped by the nipper of a withdrawing carrier and pulled towards the other selvedge, the nipper of the withdrawing carrier opens when the same reaches a position distant from the other selvedge by an amount substantially equal to the length of the weft thread reserve, and the thread reserve is allowed to slide in the then open nipper of the withdrawing carrier so as to completely straighten as far as the other selvedge during the completion of the travel of the withdrawing carrier.

In a loom comprising a shedding harness with heald frames for forming two superposed sheds in incoming warp, weft inserters for traversing weft through said sheds, a reed for heating up the weft whereby to form upper and lower fabric, and a breast beam having upper and lower edges over which said upper and lower fabrics are taken off, respectively, there is provided a rectilinear elongate transverse member which may be a rigid rod or a tight thread and is supported through its two ends, for example by fixture thereof to two supports integral with the loom frame, across the space included, on the one hand between the two sheds and, on the other hand between the leading heald frame of the shedding harness and the location of the reed in the back position.

A loom is provided with a longitudinal sliding surface over the entire length of travel of the outer extremity of the needles and behind these latter; the coupling system which connects the driving member to the outer extremity of the needles comprises a shoe which slides over that face of the longitudinal surface which is directed towards the needles; an oscillating arm which drives the needles is urged elastically so as to apply the shoe against the longitudinal sliding surface.

Such a device according to the invention comprises a feeding device including means for holding back a sliver of fibers and a fiber-separating device disposed in a hollow enclosure and constituted by a rotary drum, the surface of which is made up by elements of narrow fiber-separating ridges which each extend in a circumferential direction in a plane perpendicular to the drum axis over only a part of the drum periphery; two of said elements successive in the axial direction are angularly staggered while narrow and deep grooves separate in the axial direction at least a part of said ridge elements from one another; the invention is generally applicable to feeding devices of spinning units of free or loosened fibers of all kinds.
