A filter part (') for use in an aerosol generating article and a method of manufacturing the filter part (′). The filter part (′) includes an aerosol permeable core () within a sleeve () formed integrally therearound. The core () is shorter than the integrally formed sleeve (). The method includes conveying a plurality of aerosol permeable cores () along a conveying path at a first speed (S) and forming a sleeve () around each core () at a second speed (S). The second speed (S) is greater than the first speed (S) to generate a space between consecutive cores () within the sleeve ().

An aerosol-generating article is provided, including: an aerosol-forming substrate including plant material cut filler and between about 6 percent and about 20 percent of an aerosol-former, the plant material cut filler including at least 25 percent of plant lamina per weight of total plant material; and a laminated wrapper including a heat conductive layer and a heat insulating layer, the laminated wrapper being arranged at least partly wrapped around the aerosol-forming substrate and having a thickness of between 30 micrometers and 100 micrometers, and the heat conductive layer and the heat insulating layer overlapping along an axial direction of the aerosol-generating article.

A consumable product for use in an aerosol generating device is disclosed, the consumable product comprising a foam matrix (); and a packaging element housing the foam matrix; wherein the packaging element is configured to hold the foam matrix in a first, compressed, configuration prior to use of the consumable product in an aerosol generating device, the packaging element having a first sacrificial seal, wherein upon opening the first sacrificial seal the packaging element holds the foam matrix in a second, less compressed, configuration.

Consumable product for an aerosol generating device and methods of filling and manufacturing a consumable product for an aerosol generating device

A filter part () for use in an aerosol generating article and a method of manufacturing the filter part (). The filter part () includes an aerosol permeable core () surrounded by a sleeve (). The sleeve () is formed of linear, axially oriented fibres and the core () is formed of expanded, randomly oriented fibres. The method includes forming two or more strips () into segments surrounding a conveying path, bringing the segments together into a sleeve former () to form the sleeve () and introducing loose fibres () between the segments upstream of the sleeve former () such that they are drawn therein in a random orientation and compressed between the segments as they are brought together to form a filter rod () with an aerosol permeable core () within the sleeve (). The filter rod () is then cut to form the filter part ().

A capsule for use in a smoking article includes a liquid sensory enhancing material; and a shell surrounding the liquid sensory enhancing material. The shell has an outer surface rendered hydrophobic by hydrophobic groups covalently bond to the outer surface of the shell. The shell may be rendered hydrophobic by reacting hydroxyl groups at outer surface of the shell with fatty acid halides to covalently attach fatty acid moieties to the surface of the capsule.

The mouthpiece contains: a tubular element () defining a longitudinal channel, a downstream segment of filter material (), and an extinguisher element (). The downstream segment of filter material () is downstream of the tubular element () and spaced apart from the tubular element () to define a cavity () between the tubular element () and the downstream segment of filter material (). The extinguisher element () includes: a compressible reservoir () provided in the cavity () and containing liquid, a neck portion () extending upstream from the reservoir () and having an open end, and a seal () provided over the open end of the neck portion (). The neck portion () is received in the longitudinal channel of the tubular element () such that the open end is proximate the downstream end of the rod ().

An aerosol-generating article () includes a mouthpiece () comprising at least one segment of filter material () and a liquid delivery element (). The liquid delivery element () comprises: an upstream end and a downstream end; a double-walled annular body portion () comprising: an inner wall () defining a longitudinal channel () extending through the liquid delivery element (); and an outer wall () integrally formed with the inner wall (), the outer wall () circumscribing the inner wall () such that a cavity () is defined between the outer wall () and the inner wall (), the cavity () having an opening in at least one of the upstream end and the downstream end and containing a liquid; and annular sealing means () inserted between the inner wall () and the outer wall () of the annular body portion () to provide a liquid tight seal at the opening or openings of the cavity (). The inner wall () and the outer wall () of the annular body portion () are configured such that the inner wall () is breakable upon application of a compressive force to the liquid delivery element () in a transverse direction and such that upon breakage of the inner wall () the liquid is released from the cavity () into the longitudinal channel ().

There is provided a smoking article having an aerosol generating substrate and a mouthpiece. The mouthpiece includes a cavity at least partially filled with a particulate material, such as activated carbon,and contains at least one breakable capsule of a liquid flavourant at least partially surrounded by the particulate material, such that the force required to break the capsule within the mouthpiece to release the liquid flavourant is less than three times the inherent burst strength of the capsule.

Smoking article having a filter including a capsule

A smoking article includes a smokable material and a filter downstream of the smokable material. The filter comprises a capsule having a core and a breakable shell. The core has a mixture including one or more lipid compounds and one or more humectants. The lipid compounds account for 50% or more of the weight of the mixture. At least one of the one or more humectants is capable of interacting with one or more smoke constituents to reduce the concentration of the one or more smoke constituents in mainstream smoke.

Flavor capsules for smoking articles

There is provided a filter for a smoking article. The filter comprises a filter segment comprising filter material, and the filter segment has a cross sectional area measured perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the filter. The filter further comprises a flavour delivery member embedded in the filter segment and surrounded on all sides by the filter material. The flavour delivery member comprises structural material enclosing liquid flavourant for flavouring smoke during smoking of a smoking article provided with the filter, and the flavour delivery member releases at least a portion of the liquid flavourant when the filter is subjected to external force. The cross sectional area of the flavour delivery member measured perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the filter is about 30% of the cross sectional area of the filter segment or greater.
