There is disclosed a reversible heat pump systemand a method of operating a reversible heat pump system to control the temperature of a process fluid of a chiller system. In a cooling mode, a working fluid is circulated for co-current flow with a process fluid at a heat exchangerfunctioning as an evaporator heat exchanger, whereas in a heating mode, the working fluid is circulated for counter-current flow with the process fluid at the same heat exchangerfunctioning as a condenser heat exchanger.

Reversible heat pump

A dynamic receiver is included in parallel to an expander of a heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) system. The dynamic receiver allows control of the refrigerant charge of the HVACR system to respond to different operating conditions. The dynamic receiver can be filled or emptied in response to the subcooling observed in the HVACR system compared to desired subcooling for various operating modes. The flow through an expander of the HVACR system can be controlled to account for the mass flow rate through an outlet valve of the dynamic receiver when the dynamic receiver is emptied, preventing or reducing instability or effects on system parameters such as the suction superheat.

Superheating control for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) system including a dynamic receiver

A dynamic receiver is included in parallel to an expander of a heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) system. The dynamic receiver allows control of the refrigerant charge of the HVACR system to respond to different operating conditions. The dynamic receiver can be filled or emptied in response to the subcooling observed in the HVACR system compared to desired subcooling for various operating modes. The HVACR system can include a line directly conveying working fluid from compressor discharge to the dynamic receiver to allow emptying of the dynamic receiver to be assisted by injection of the compressor discharge.

Dynamic liquid receiver and control strategy

Systems and methods for controlled subcooling of working fluid in a heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) system through a suction line heat exchanger are disclosed. The suction line heat exchanger may receive a first fluid flow travelling to a suction of the compressor in the HVACR system and second flow of working fluid that is travelling from a heat exchanger receiving the discharge of the compressor to an expansion device. Superheating of the first working fluid may be determined based on temperature measurements prior to and following the suction line heat exchanger. The superheating may be used to control the quantity of the second flow of working fluid introduced into the suction line heat exchanger, for example to maintain superheat that is below a threshold value. These systems may include chillers and heat pump systems, and methods may be applied to chillers or heat pump systems.

Systems and methods for control of superheat from a subcooler

Systems and methods are provided for controlling compressor systems to ensure sufficient pressure differentials to provide cooling. A compressor system includes a compressor, a suction pressure sensor at a suction of the compressor, a discharge pressure sensor, a condenser, an expansion device, a liquid line, a liquid line pressure sensor, an evaporator, a condenser blower and a controller. The method includes determining a pressure target based on an intermediate pressure within the compressor and a threshold cooling differential pressure value, determining a pressure ratio setpoint based on the pressure target and a liquid line pressure measured by the liquid line pressure sensor, controlling the condenser blower to operate based on the determined pressure ratio setpoint, determining a subcooling setpoint based on the pressure target and the liquid line pressure in the compressor system, and controlling the expansion device to operate based on the subcooling setpoint.

Systems and methods for controlling differential refrigerant pressure

There is provided a HVAC system comprising: a fluid circuit for conveying a refrigerant; a compressor for compressing the refrigerant; three heat exchangers defining an evaporator, an outdoor exchanger and a heat recovery exchanger provided along the fluid circuit; an expansion valve provided along the fluid circuit; and a receiver connected in parallel to the expansion valve, wherein a fill valve is located between the receiver and a connection upstream of the expansion valve and a drain valve is located between the receiver and a connection downstream of the expansion valve; wherein the fluid circuit comprises a plurality of valves which are configured to be controlled based on a selected operating mode such that at least one of the outdoor exchanger and the heat recovery exchanger is connected to a discharge line of the compressor and in series with one of the other heat exchangers which is connected to a suction line of the compressor, with the expansion valve disposed between the heat exchangers; wherein the fill and drain valves are configured to be controlled to store a volume of refrigerant in the receiver so as to provide an effective refrigerant charge in the fluid circuit that corresponds to the selected operating mode.

Methods and systems for controlling working fluid flow in a heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) unit for an HVACR system are disclosed. The unit includes a compressor having a motor and a drive. The unit also includes a condenser fluidly connected to the compressor. A subcooler is located downstream of the condenser. The unit further includes an evaporator fluidly connected to the condenser. Also the unit includes a controller. The unit also includes a bypass assembly connected to the condenser. The bypass assembly includes a bypass flow control device and a bypass fluid line controlled by the bypass flow control device. When a heat recovery demand is detected by the controller, the controller is configured to open the bypass flow control device to allow a first portion of working fluid to bypass the condenser or the subcooler.
