An article of footwear including a sole and an upper, a lateral quarter and a medial quarter. A device for tightening the upper includes a first lateral lace strand and at least two points for connecting the first lateral strand to the lateral quarter, as well as a first medial lace strand and at least two points for connecting the first medial strand to the medial quarter. Each lateral or medial strand includes a lateral intermediate portion or a medial intermediate portion, respectively, which extends between two connecting points of the same lateral or medial quarter, without being guided by a connecting point of the other lateral or medial quarter, a connector connecting the lateral and medial intermediate portions of the lateral and medial strands, respectively, the connector enabling the sliding of at least one of the lateral and medial strands.

An article of footwear including a sole and having a low upper that is at least partially elastic, with an instep portion provided with an elastic tightening system extending from the top of the instep to the area of the sole. The elastic tightening system has a central portion extending over the top of the instep and a series of branches extending radially from the central portion to the area of the sole. Additionally, the elastic tightening system has a branch extending toward the heel on at least a lateral and medial side of the footwear article, and a branch extending toward the toes on at least a lateral and medial side of the footwear article.

Sole for footwear

Sports footwear for cycling use, in which a latching member is provided to cooperate with a bicycle pedal and is detachably attached to the sole with a rigid insert. The footwear of the invention includes a sole and an upper extending upwardly from the sole. A reinforcement plate is fixed on an upper surface of the sole and is positioned beneath the peripheral edge of the upper. Further, an insole is positioned above the peripheral edge of the upper, the peripheral edge thereby being situated between the insole and the reinforcement plate, with the thickness of the peripheral edge of said upper defining a housing. The rigid insert has an upper portion that is adjustably positioned on an upper surface of the reinforcement plate, the upper portion of the rigid insert having a thickness no greater than the height of the housing defined by the thickness of the peripheral edge of the upper. The latching member is detachably connected to the insert.
