Device for guiding molten steel in a tundish

A system for handling iron and steel products, such as, in particular, slabs, blooms, billets and similar products, which have intersecting translation movements. These include apparatus for gripping, handling and transporting iron and steel products and adapted for being driven in a translation movement along a running path, and a transfer carriage on which the apparatus for gripping and carrying a product is positioned. The transfer carriage is capable of being displaced along a running path, according to a translation movement perpendicular to the translation movement of the gripping apparatus in order to bring the product to any desired location.

Handling installation for iron and steel products

A metallurgical product storage device located downstream from two parallel continuous casting lines and upstream from a rolling line includes: a heated storage chamber having a length at least equal to the length of the products to be stored and having opposite inlets and outlets for the products originating from the continuous casting lines and delivered to the rolling line, these products being displaced in the chamber on tables with rollers disposed, respectively, along the axes of the continuous casting lines; and a storage zone in the chamber located between the two tables with rollers and including movable support beams for supporting the products, capable of being displaced vertically between several levels, and movable transport beams, separated from the support beams and capable of being displaced vertically and horizontally for advancing the products step-by-step according to a series of successive rectangular movements. The beams are installed successively between two rollers of each table with rollers to that the product to be stored corresponding to each continuous casting line can be successively lifted and displaced parallel to this axis by the movable beams in order to be deposited for storage between the two rows of tables and rollers.

Method of and apparatus for storing products from continuous casting

Air heater resisting corrosion, using combustion products from thermal equipment, the combustion products containing polluting and corrosive agents such as sulfur oxidized components and sodium and vanadium salts, the air heater including at least one tube nest through which flows the air to be heated, which is placed in the path of travel of the corrosive fumes prior to their discharge to the atmosphere, the corrosive fumes flowing countercurrent to the air to be heated and flowing through the tubes, this heater further comprising a protective tubular nest placed upstream of the tube nest, this protective nest being fed with a constant flow of cold air circulating in the same direction as the fumes, this cold air flow and the exchange surface of the protective nest being chosen in such manner that the temperature of the first tubes of the heater tubular nest is at all times below the sodium and vanadium corrosion critical temperature. The constant air flow exiting from the protective nest is thereafter redistributed at the inlet or at the outlet of the heater tubular nest, as a function of the operation conditions, so that the temperature of the skin of the tubes of this tubular nest is always slightly above the acid dew point temperature of the fumes.

First and second arrays of alternately fixed and mobile, transversely spaced, elongated fire dogs are arranged in a furnace for heating iron and steel products, the fire dogs lying parallel to the longitudinal axis thereof, the second array being transversely offset from the first array, whereby the fixed fire dogs of the first array extend therebeyond substantially to a line common with the ends of the fixed fire dogs of the second array, the mobile fire dogs of the second array extending therebeyond and overlapping the extended portions of the fixed fire dogs of the first array, one of the mobile fire dogs of each array lying midway between the fixed fire dogs thereof, and one of the fixed fire dogs of each array lying midway between the mobile fire dogs thereof.

Mobile side member furnace for heating iron and steel products

A treatment furnace having a longitudinally extending charging opening has a transversely extending furnace conveyor having an upstream end in the vicinity of the opening. A loading conveyor has an array of transversely extending approach rollers adjacent the charging opening so that a workpiece to be treated in the furnace can be rolled longitudinally along the approach rollers to a position transversely aligned with the charging opening. A loading apparatus for the furnace has at least two transversely extending arms each having an inner end pivoted inside the furnace about a longitudinal axis at the upstream end of the furnace conveyor and an outer end outside the furnace and an array of longitudinally extending loading rollers rotatable about horizontal and longitudinal axes is carried on the arms. The outer arm ends can be raised to move the loading rollers carried thereby from a lower position with the loading rollers below the approach rollers to an upper position with the loading rollers above the approach rollers so that a workpiece transversely aligned with the charging opening can move longitudinally on the approach rollers in the lower position of the arms and can move transversely on the loading rollers in the upper position, in which latter position it can be pushed through the charging opening into the furnace and onto the upstream end of the furnace conveyor.
