Provided is an implant for restoring the mobility of an articular end of a bone. The implant includes a framework having a first face and a second face opposite the first face, the framework is defined by a plurality of free volumes formed by a grating, where the grating includes a first series of bars extending through the framework from the first face to the second face, and a second series of bars extending through the framework from the first face to the second face, wherein the second series of bars are parallel to one another, and spaced apart in pairs, where the bars have ends along the second face that are bevelled.

Systems and methods for treating a vertebral body. An intravertebral implant includes an anterior end element and a plate comprising a planar bearing surface. The plate may be exactly two plates movable in only a cranio-caudal expansion plane. A pedicle fixation is coupled to the intravertebral implant and includes a hollow sleeve. The pedicle fixation is configured to be secured to the pedicle to control an insertion depth of the intravertebral implant within the vertebral body. A central traction member is movably disposed within the hollow sleeve of the pedicle fixation to deploy the planar bearing surface(s). A method of forming a shoulder prosthesis includes resecting an end portion of a humerus to form a resected end of the humerus and a resected portion separated from the humerus, the resected portion having an outer convex surface and an inner surface. The inner surface of the resected portion is processed to include a concave articular surface. The outer convex surface of the resected portion is implanted in the resected end of the humerus. An implant having a convex articular surface is secured to a glenoid. The concave articular surface of the resected portion is articulated with the convex articular surface of the implant.

A steerable system and methods for accessing bone. A control mechanism includes a handle configured to be detachably secured to a trocar. The handle includes a drive shaft coupled to a sliding shaft such that relative rotation is prevented and relative translation is permitted. A rod having a preformed bend is removably disposed within the cannula. The rod is prevented from rotating relative to the drive shaft such that a deflection plane of the preformed bend is predefined relative to each of the sliding shaft, the handle, and the trocar when the handle is coupled to the trocar. Rotating a sliding ring of the handle translates the drive shaft to advance the rod beyond the trocar such that the preformed bend extends laterally out of the trocar in the deflection plane. The rod may be removed from the cannula, and material may be injected through the cannula.

Steerable systems and methods for accessing bone

Methods of deploying an intravertebral implant having an expandable anterior part, a posterior part coupled to the expandable anterior part, and a pedicle fixation element. The expandable anterior part is positioned within the vertebral body, and the posterior part may be positioned within the vertebral body. The pedicle fixation element is anchored to the vertebral body. The expandable anterior part is moved relative to the pedicle fixation element, for example, in two degrees of freedom. Movement in a first of the two degrees of freedom is independent from movement in a second of the two degrees of freedom. The expandable anterior part may be translated without being rotated along a main axis of the pedicle fixation element. Filling material may be injected through the posterior part. Rotational movements of the expandable anterior part relative to the pedicle fixation element may be locked.
