A frame structure for a motorcycle includes a main frame for supporting a front structure of the motorcycle, the main frame including a pair of main pipes extending rearward from a head pipe of the front structure; a pivot bracket including a metal plate, the pivot bracket connected to the main frame and including a rear cushion mounting portion and a swing arm mounting portion for swingably mounting a rear cushion and a swing arm. The main frame further includes: a pair of support pipes extending rearward from the head pipe for supporting the front structure; and a connecting portion jointly connected at a rear end of the pair of main pipes and the pair of support pipes for connecting to the pivot bracket. The rear cushion mounting portion is positioned forward of the connecting portion of the main frame when viewed from a side view of the motorcycle.

Frame structure for a motorcycle

In a saddle-ride type vehicle in which a cylinder includes a cylinder head and a cylinder head cover that covers an upper portion of the cylinder head, a vehicle body frame includes a head cover adjoining portion that adjoins the cylinder head cover. At least a part of the cylinder head cover overlaps the head cover adjoining portion as viewed from a direction along a cylinder axis that is a center axis of the cylinder. The head cover adjoining portion extends rearward such that the cylinder head cover is exposed outside in a side view. The foregoing configuration seeks to affect the ease of mounting and dismounting a saddle-ride vehicle having a power unit with a cylinder arranged upward and the vehicle body frame for supporting the power unit by reducing the left-right width of a vehicle body frame while allowing a cylinder head cover to be attachable and detachable.

An exhaust device structure for a rocking vehicle includes: a front side exhaust device and a rear side exhaust device muffling exhaust gas noise from an engine; the front side exhaust device and the rear side exhaust device including a front side exhaust pipe and a rear side exhaust pipe having upstream ends connected to exhaust ports of the engine and a first muffler and a second muffler connected to downstream ends of the front side exhaust pipe and the rear side exhaust pipe, the first muffler and the second muffler being disposed on a lower side of the vehicle, the first muffler and the second muffler being arranged to be separated from each other in a forward-rearward direction of the vehicle, and the first muffler and the second muffler being arranged so as to be separated from each other in a left-right direction with respect to a vehicle center.

A saddle type vehicle wherein restrictions in the weight and the layout are reduced for slimmer and lighter vehicle. Pivot plates are provided as separate bodies from seat rails. An upper end of a shock absorber is received by a cross member located between left and right seat rails. The cross member is a separate body from the seat rails. Both ends of the cross member are supported by recesses provided in the left and right seat rails at inner sides of the seat rails so as to face each other. The cross member is fastened to the seat rails by cross member fastening members. The seat rail is attached to a main frame at its one front-side end and to the pivot plate at its other front-side end. The main frame and the seat rail are fastened to each other in the vertical direction by a first fastening member.

A resonator structure of a saddle-ride vehicle includes a head box that includes a head pipe defining a handlebar steering axis and that forms an intake passage through which air is guided from a front of the vehicle into an inside of the vehicle when the vehicle is traveling, an air cleaner box that is connected to the head box and allows the air guided through the intake passage to be taken into a power unit of the vehicle, and a resonator that forms a resonator chamber configured to reduce an air intake noise. The resonator chamber is formed continuous to the intake passage inside the head box.

To operate a pillion step in one action. The pillion step is formed in a generally L shape and includes an arm portion and a foot rest portion. One end of the arm portion is pivotably secured through an oblique pivot shaft to a side face of a seat rail located under a rider seat and is pivotally moved around the oblique pivot shaft. When the pillion step is to be retracted and is pivotally moved backward, the foot rest portion moves into a gap between the rider seat and a pillion seat and its tip end is received within a grip space formed in a grip.

An exhaust valve and a catalyst can be easily disposed of in a simple manner. The interior of a triangular muffler is partitioned into three expansion chambers. A manifold pipe is connected to the second, middle expansion chamber sideways from a lower portion thereof and is accommodated therein so as to face upward. A catalyst is accommodated in the interior of the manifold pipe. Exhaust gas flowing out from an open end of the manifold pipe expands into the second chamber. A short-circuiting aperture is formed in a second separator and is opened and closed with an exhaust valve installed within the third chamber. The exhaust valve is normally closed by a spring. When the exhaust pressure reaches a predetermined magnitude, the exhaust valve opens automatically, allowing the exhaust gas to flow out into the third chamber through the short-circuiting aperture, thereby controlling the exhaust pressure.

In a motorcycle, a head pipe is provided with one main frame part that extends rearwardly from the head pipe and a rear frame that extends substantially downwardly from the rear of the main frame part. A pivot is pierced in a pivot support part provided to the rear frame with a swing arm being attached to the pivot so that the swing arm can be vertically swung and a rear shock absorber unit is positioned between the swing arm and the side of the body frame. The main frame is cast in an aluminum alloy and the rear frame on the upside and the downside of the pivot supporting part projects on both sides of a vehicle from the pivot supporting part to attach right and left brackets for supporting both ends of the pivot.

A saddle-riding type vehicle includes a vehicle body, a pivot frame that supports a swing arm for rear wheel suspension, and a rear master cylinder disposed rearwardly of the pivot frame. A reservoir tank supplies hydraulic fluid to the rear master cylinder, and the reservoir tank is disposed between the pivot frame and the rear master cylinder. A portion of the swing arm, adjacent to the reservoir tank, is configured with a concave recess formed therein extending inwardly towards a longitudinal center line of the vehicle body. The reservoir tank is situated closer to a vehicle body inner side, and is deeper in the recess than the rear master cylinder.

A motorcycle body frame includes a main frame including a head pipe for supporting a front suspension at the front end thereof, a single leading frame portion extending rearwardly from the head pipe, and a rear frame portion for supporting a rear wheel suspension. The rear frame portion extends substantially downwardly from a rear part of the leading frame portion. The main frame, cast from an aluminum alloy, includes two component parts arranged front-to-rear. For example, a front frame portion is provided, and a rear frame portion is fixed to the rear side of the front frame portion. The leading frame portion has a small section portion, where the main frame is smallest in sectional area, disposed substantially centrally in the longitudinal direction thereof. The two component parts of the frame are joined at a coupling portion of the main frame situated in back of the small section portion.

To restrain an increase in the numbers of components and process steps and achieve an easy mounting and dismounting of a pivot shaft. An arm supporting member includes a pair of left and right plate members, a middle cross pipe extending between the plate members and a center pivot plate mounted to the middle cross pipe. A pivot shaft is supported by the plate member and the center pivot plate, and a drive shaft is arranged between the plate member and the center pivot plate. The middle cross pipe is arranged above the pivot shaft on a front portion of a vehicle. The center pivot plate is provided with an upright wall as a receiving portion for aiding the positioning of the bearing member by receiving the bearing member, more specifically, the collar when assembling the swing arm to the center pivot plate and the plate member.

A vehicle frame structure includes a pair of main frames, one of the pair of frames extending on left side of a vehicle, and the other on the right side, from the head pipe rearwards in an overall sealed cross sectional structure. At least a portion of each main frame includes a frame upper stage and a frame lower stage, each stage made up of a closed, sealed cross sectional structure. At least a portion of each main frame further includes an outer plate and an inner plate joined into an integrated piece with the frame upper stage and the frame lower stage. The plates are installed so as to extend over both sides of the frame upper stage and the frame lower stage. The frame structure provides a well-balanced high-strength main frame, and high strength in portions which join the main frame and head pipe.
