A branch pipe joint for a high pressure fluid, comprising: a joint body having a conduit therein on its axis and a branch hole formed in its circumferential wall and having a pressure receiving seat formed on the circumferential face thereof and opened to the outside; a branch pipe having a conduit to communicate with the conduit of said joint body and including a joint head formed at the end thereof and forming a pressure seat so that said branch pipe is engaged with said joint body by bringing the pressure seat thereof into abutment against the pressure receiving seat of said joint body; a joint portion made integral with or separate from said joint body; and a nut assembled in advance in said branch pipe and fastened into said joint portion against the pressure of said joint head thereby to joint said branch pipe to said main pipe. The branch hole at said joint body is formed into an elliptical hole having a longer diameter in the radial direction of said joint body and aligned with the center of the conduit of said joint body.

A common rail is provided in the pipe joint of the branch connector to improve the strength and resistance against the internal pressure fatigue; said common rail having a longitudinal conduit of a substantially circular section therein and a plurality of branch holes formed in its circumferential wall at an axial spacing, each of the branch holes having a pressure receiving seat formed on the circumferential face thereof and opened to the outside, wherein connected by means of branch connector having a conduit to communicate with the conduit of the common rail, a joint head formed at the end thereof and forming a pressure seat so that the branch pipe is engaged by bringing the pressure face thereof into abutment against the pressure receiving face, a joint portion made integral with or separate from the main pipe rail, and a nut assembled in advance in the branch pipe and fastened into the joint portion against the pressure of the joint head thereby. The branch hole is formed into an elliptical hole and offset in the radial direction of the conduit of the common rail.

An exhaust gas cleaning device is constructed of a metal casing and a honeycomb core body fixedly inserted in the metal casing. The honeycomb core body have been formed by superposing a planar band made of a metal sheet and a corrugated band made from another metal sheet one over the other in a contiguous relation, defines a number of network-patterned axial gas flow passages, and is adapted to carry an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst thereon. The metal casing defines a cavity compartment isolated from an exterior. Preferably, at least one rib or partition wall is arranged in the cavity compartment of the metal casing.

Exhaust gas cleaning device

A metal-made honeycomb carrier body is provided for carrying thereon an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst. The carrier body has been formed by superposing a planar metal band made of a metal sheet and a corrugated band made from another metal sheet one over the other in a contiguous relation and defines a number of network-patterned gas flow passages along a central axis thereof. At one of opposite axial ends of the honeycomb carrier body, one of the planar band and the corrugated band extends outwardly relative to the other band.

The corrugated band has ridges and inter-ridge grooves, both in contact with the sheet-like band. The shape of the corrugated band is such that a unit part of the corrugated band between each of the ridges and an individual one of the grooves contiguous thereto is longer than a virtual sine curve.

An exhaust gas cleaning device for a motor vehicle is constructed of a metal casing open at both ends thereof and a honeycomb core body fixedly enclosed within the metal casing. The honeycomb core body has been formed by superposing a planar band made of a metal sheet and a corrugated band made from another metal sheet one over the other in a contiguous relationship. The honeycomb core body defines a number of network-patterned axial gas flow passages and is adapted to carry an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst. At least one fin is fixed on an outer peripheral wall of the metal casing.

A metal-made carrier body is fabricated for an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst. At least one sheet-like metal band and at least one corrugated metal band, each of said bands being made of a thin metal sheet, are superposed one over the other so as to establish contacts therebetween, thereby forming a multi-layered composite body defining a number of network-patterned gas flow passages along the central axis thereof. The composite body is dipped in an electroless plating bath capable of forming a brazing coating layer on the composite body so as to form a brazing coating layer at least in the vicinity of each contact except for the contact itself. The composite body is then subjected to a heat treatment so as to braze the contacts between the sheet-like metal band and corrugated metal band. Before dipping the composite body in the plating bath, it may optionally be enclosed in a cylindrical metal casing. The composite body and cylindrical metal casing are also brazed together at their mutual contacts.

Process for the fabrication of metal-made carrier body for exhaust gas

Disclosed herein is an exhaust gas cleaning device which is suitable for arrangement at an intermediate point in an exhaust gas system of an automotive vehicle and has good efficiency. The exhaust gas cleaning device includes a metal-made carrier body for an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst. The carrier body is composed of a multi-layered composite body by superposing one over the other at least one planar metal band made of a thin metal sheet and at least one corrugated metal band made of another thin metal sheet and defining many network-patterned gas flow passages along a central axis thereof to allow an exhaust gas to axially flow as streams through the gas flow passages. At least one of the bands defines many holes and many raised portions, preferably, ridges around or near the respective holes. As an alternative, at least one of the bands is made of a metal wire net.
