Provided is a polarizing element which has an excellent antireflection function as being applied to an image display device; and a circularly polarizing plate and an image display device, each of which has the polarizing element. The polarizing element has an alignment film and an anisotropic light-absorbing film formed using a dichroic substance, in which a degree S of alignment of the anisotropic light-absorbing film is 0.92 or more, and an average refractive index nat a wavelength of 400 to 700 nm of the alignment film is 1.55 to 2.0.

Polarizing element, circularly polarizing plate, and image display device

An object of the invention is to provide an anisotropic light absorption film having both a high alignment degree and high light resistance, and a laminate provided using the anisotropic light absorption film. An anisotropic light absorption film according to the embodiment of the invention is formed from a composition having a first dichroic azo dye, a second dichroic azo dye, and a compound represented by Formula (I) or a polymer thereof, the first dichroic azo dye has a solution absorption maximum wavelength of 400 nm or greater and less than 550 nm, the second dichroic azo dye has a solution absorption maximum wavelength of 550 nm or greater and 750 nm or less, and the film has an arrangement structure of the first dichroic azo dye or an arrangement structure of the second dichroic azo dye therein.

An object of the present invention is to provide a polarizer having a high degree of alignment and an image display device including the polarizer. A polarizer of the present invention is a polarizer formed of a polarizer-forming composition containing a liquid crystal compound, a first dichroic material, and a second dichroic material, in which the polarizer has an array structure formed of the first dichroic material and the second dichroic material.

The laminate includes an optical film having a light absorption anisotropic film formed using a composition including a dichroic substance and having a transmittance of more than 50%, a &#x3bb;/4 plate, and a metal electrode in this order, in which in a case where a degree (%) of polarization at a wavelength of &#x3bb; of the optical film is defined as P(&#x3bb;) and a reflectance (%) at the wavelength of &#x3bb; of the metal electrode is defined as R(&#x3bb;), a ratio of a minimum value of R/P to a maximum value of R/P at wavelengths of 450 nm, 550 nm, and 650 nm is more than 85%.

The method for manufacturing an optical laminate according to an embodiment of the present invention is a method for manufacturing an optical laminate in which an optical laminate including a photo-alignment layer and a light-absorbing anisotropic layer and having a front transmittance of 60% or less is produced and which includes a photo-alignment layer formation step of forming a photo-alignment layer on a polymer film, and a light-absorbing anisotropic layer formation step of applying a liquid crystal composition containing a dichroic substance and a high-molecular liquid crystalline compound onto the photo-alignment layer to form a light-absorbing anisotropic layer.

Method for manufacturing optical laminate, optical laminate, and image display device

An object of the present invention is to provide a laminate in which an excellent alignment property of a dichroic substance is maintained and which is excellent in both high-temperature durability and moisture-heat resistance, a manufacturing method of the laminate, and an image display device using the laminate. A laminate according to an embodiment of the present invention is a laminate having a transparent support, a light absorption anisotropic film, and a transparent resin layer in this order, in which the light absorption anisotropic film is a film containing a dichroic substance represented by a predetermined formula, and the transparent resin layer is a layer containing a polymer which has a hydrophilic group and does not have a glass transition temperature in a temperature range of 95&#xb0; C. or lower.

The present invention provides a polarizing plate including a polarizer having a high transmittance, which can be suitably applied to a circularly polarizing plate with which a significant decrease in an antireflection ability is suppressed in a case where the circularly polarizing plate is disposed on a display element; a circularly polarizing plate; and a display device. The polarizing plate includes a polarizer and an adjacent layer in contact with the polarizer, in which a transmittance in the absorption axis direction of the polarizer is 4.0% or more, and an in-plane average refractive index of the adjacent layer satisfies a relationship of Formula (X), Formula (X): Refractive index in a transmission axis direction of the polarizer&#x3c;In-plane average refractive index of the adjacent layer&#x3c;Refractive index in the absorption axis direction of the polarizer.

A photosensitive composition, a method for producing a cured film using the photosensitive composition, a cured film prepared by curing the photosensitive composition, and a touch panel and a display device that use the cured film are provided. The photosensitive composition contains: a compound having two or more ethylenically unsaturated groups; a photopolymerization initiator; a polymer A1 containing a constitutional unit a1 represented by the following Formula 1 and a constitutional unit a2 having a carboxylic acid anhydride structure; particles; and a solvent. A molar content ratio of the constitutional unit a1 to the constitutional unit a2 in the polymer A1 is in a range of a1:a2=3:1 to 6:1. An acid anhydride value of the polymer A1 is from 1.30 to 3.00 mmol/g. A number average primary particle size of the particles is from 10 to 200 nm.
