The present invention provides a device for detecting the presence of an analyte in a liquid sample. The device has an opening for introducing the liquid sample into a first chamber for collecting the liquid sample, and a second chamber connected to the first chamber by a passageway and containing a test element. The device also has a third chamber connected to the second chamber by a channel and containing a movable member having first and second positions. The third chamber is divided by the movable member into first and second zones, and the first zone has a vent hole. The movable member is in contact with at least one wall of the third chamber to prevent gas communication between the first and second zones.

Device for detecting analytes in fluid samples

A device for detecting the presence or amount of an analyte in a fluid sample and method thereof, comprises a sample collector and a receiving cup for receiving and holding the sample collector within the receiving cup. The sample collector contains a compressible absorbent member for collecting the fluid sample, and has a first position and a second, locked position within the receiving cup. The absorbent member is uncompressed in the first position and is compressed in the second, locked position. The sample collector or the receiving cup has at least one test element having reagents for detecting the presence or amount of the analyte in the fluid sample.

The present invention is directed to devices and methods for determining the presence of analyte in a fluid sample. The devices utilize a sample collection well, an expression plate for expressing sample into the sample collection well, a plunger that drives a lance, and a test compartment containing test elements. The devices also preserve an aliquot of fluid sample in a reservoir for later confirmation testing. When the plunger is lowered into the sample collection well, a lance on the device punctures a frangible material that covers a sample outlet. When the sample outlet is thus opened, fluid sample flows from the sample collection cup to the test compartment. In one embodiment the plunger is lowered as a cap is applied to the device. The devices are useful for detecting the presence of analyte in a wide variety of fluid samples, such as saliva, oral fluids, and more. The invention also provides methods of using the devices, and kits containing the devices.

Rapid sample analysis storage devices and methods of use

Disclosed is a device for collecting a fluid specimen. The device comprises a container that can receive a fluid specimen; a plunger movably positioned within the container, wherein the plunger can move from an initial position at an upper region of the container to a secondary position below the first position; a fluid segregation chamber that can receive a portion of the fluid specimen from the container, wherein any fluid in the segregation chamber is segregated from the fluid specimen in the container; a fluid flow lumen that provides a passageway for at least a portion of the fluid specimen to flow into the fluid segregation chamber, wherein a first end of the passageway has a first opening that opens into the fluid segregation chamber and a second end of the passageway has a second opening that can receive at least a portion of the fluid specimen; and a seal member that covers the first opening or the second opening to prevent fluid from flowing therethrough. A test element can be used to push the plunger from the initial position toward the secondary position to break the seal member and cause at least a portion of the fluid specimen to flow through the second opening into the fluid flow lumen and into the fluid segregation chamber through the first opening.
