The invention related to a one-pot process of making a single-phase silicone-acrylic hybrid adhesive composition comprising acrylic polymer and silicone polymer that are covalently bonded through a —Si—O—Si— linkage. The acrylic polymer contains at least one hydrolyzable silane (meth)acrylic monomer or siloxane (meth)acrylic macromer. These functional moieties provide reaction sites to form —Si—O—Si— bond by reacting hydrolyzable groups in the silicone polymer in the presence of a base or acid catalyst and water. The formed covalent bonds between the two incompatible systems of silicone polymer and acrylic polymer prevents phase separation and thereby a permanent, homogeneous single-phase system is formed.

Curable silicone pressure sensitive adhesive compositions and films suitable for sealing and adhering substrates for optically clear electronic devices are described. The curable silicone pressure sensitive adhesive compositions are suitable as films or encapsulants for adhering electronic devices, e.g., LCD display, LED display, flexible display, touch screen, and flexible thin film photovoltaic module.

Curable and optically clear pressure sensitive adhesives and uses thereof

Silicone optically clear adhesives compositions and films with pressure sensitive properties are described. The silicone optically clear adhesives compositions are thermal, UV curable, or UV-moisture dual curable. The silicone optically clear adhesives are suitable for sealing and bonding cover glasses, touch panels, diffusers, rigid compensators, heaters, and flexible films, polarizers and retarders in the optical display devices, and are particularly suitable in flexible and foldable displays.

Curable silicone optically clear adhesives and uses thereof

Optically clear adhesives (OCA) with UV blocking below 380 nm are described. The OCA comprise a UV blocking package of UV absorbers and hindered amine light stabilizers. The UV blocking package is suitable for a variety of OCA, including PIB-based OCA, styrenic block copolymer-based OCA, silicone-based OCA, or acrylic-based OCA. The OCA with UV blocking in the invention are particularly suitable as laminating films, tapes or encapsulants for adhering display electronic devices, e.g., LCD displays, LED displays, flexible and foldable displays, and touch screens.

Curable and optically clear pressure sensitive adhesive and uses thereof

Hot melt adhesives with pressure sensitive adhesive properties for electronic devices are described. The hot melt adhesive comprises a styrenic block copolymer with fully hydrogenated and saturated soft blocks, a liquid diluent or a tackifier, a (meth)acrylate monomer or an oligomer having at least two (meth)acrylic functionalities per oligomer chain, and an initiator. The hot melt adhesive is also a reworkable UV curable optically clear adhesive film. The adhesive and film are suitable as a laminating PSA film or encapsulant for LCD display, LED display, touch screen, and flexible thin film photovoltaic module.

Optically clear hot melt adhesives and uses thereof

The present invention relates to curable barrier encapsulants or sealants for electronic devices that have pressure sensitive adhesive properties. The encapsulants are especially suitable for organic electronic devices that require lower laminating temperature profiles. The encapsulant protects active organic/polymeric components within an organic electronic device from environmental elements, such as moisture and oxygen.

An ultraviolet (UV) crosslinkable acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive comprises an acrylic copolymer and a cationic photoinitiator. The acrylic copolymer comprises pendant reactive functional groups. The pressure sensitive adhesive formed from the acrylic copolymer with the pendant reactive functional groups result in high green strength and/or high temperature holding strength of the adhesive.

Cationic UV-crosslinkable acrylic polymers for pressure sensitive adhesives

A novel silicone-acrylic copolymer which comprises a covalently bonded silicone polymer with an acrylic polymer through the &#x2014;Si&#x2014;O&#x2014;Si&#x2014; linkage is described. The silicone-acrylic copolymer is a reaction product of (a) a silicone polymer, (bi) a mixture of acrylic monomers wherein at least one acrylic monomer comprises a silane (meth)acrylic monomer and/or a siloxane (meth)acrylic macromer with a radical initiator to form an acrylic prepolymer or (bii) an acrylic polymer which comprises a silane or a siloxane functional group; and (c) a scrambling catalyst, wherein the ratio of the silicone polymer (a) and the mixture of acrylic monomers (bi) or polymer (bii) is from 50:1 to 1:50. The silicone-acrylic copolymer is useful as an adhesive, sealant, coating, and the like.

The photoinitiator comprises a spacer comprising both ethylene oxide and urethane, or urea, carbonate, or siloxane functional groups. The ethylene oxide is directly bonded to the chromophore (e.g., benzophenone) moiety, while the urethane (or urea, carbonate, siloxane) is closely linked to the polymerizable moiety (e.g., styrenic C&#x2550;C double bond).
