An oleic acid-releasing contact lens is described as well as method of manufacturing the same. The oleic acid-releasing contact lens contains oleic acid releasably adhered to the polymeric lens body, and releases from 2 μg to 25 μg oleic acid after 1 hour in a release media. The oleic acid-releasing contact lens can be comfortably worn by a symptomatic contact lens wearer, and can increase the duration of comfortable lens wearing time and/or reduce lens awareness events in a symptomatic contact lens wearer.

Oleic acid-releasing contact lens

The present disclosure provides a contact lens comprising a first colourant which is a blue-blocking colourant having an absorption maximum (λ) in the range of from 415 nm to 455 nm and a second colourant, wherein the second colourant is a polymerizable dye having an absorption maximum (λ) in the range of from 470 nm to 600 nm, and optionally also comprising a third colourant which is a colourant having an absorption maximum in the range of from greater than 600 nm to 800 nm. A method of making the lens is also provided.

Contact lens

A contact lens having an amount of at least one cooling agent and at least one TRPV1 inhibitor releasably adhered is described as well as method of manufacturing the same. The contact lens can be comfortably worn by contact lens wearers and can increase the duration of comfortable lens wearing time and/or reduce lens awareness events and/or reduce contact lens dryness in a symptomatic contact lens wearer and further can reduce or avoid any stinging/burning sensation when the contact lens is first used or a short time thereafter.

A cationic contact lens is described as well as methods of manufacturing the same. The cationic contact lens includes a polymeric lens body that is the reaction product of a polymerizable composition that includes at least one siloxane, at least one nonionic hydrophilic monomer and at least one acyclic tertiary amine monomer. The cationic contact lens can be an unworn sterile silicone hydrogel contact lens. The contact lens is capable of substantially linear release of a releasable anionic agent and the at least one acyclic tertiary amine monomer facilitates uptake and/or sustained release of the releasable anionic agent by the polymeric lens body. The contact lens can be present in a sealed contact lens package. The sealed contact lens package can include at least a) a base member having a cavity; b) a contact lens packaging solution in the cavity; c) a unworn sterile contact lens immersed in the contact lens packaging solution in the cavity with the releasable anionic agent present; and d) a cover that forms a liquid-tight seal with the base member.

Cationic contact lens

A contact lens comprising one or more microchannels for transport of liquid through the lens is provided. The contact lens can be made by contacting a curable composition with a microfiber that is insoluble in the curable composition; curing the curable composition to provide a polymeric lens body with the microfiber embedded therein; and contacting the polymeric lens body with a solvent to dissolve the microfiber.

Contact lenses with microchannels

Methods are disclosed for manufacturing a coated contact lens that comprises a polymeric lens body comprising an acid group, a first coating polymer comprising a first amine group ionically bound to the acid group, and a second coating bound to the first coating polymer through covalent linkage between a nitrogen atom of a second amine group on the first coating polymer and an amine-reactive group of the second coating polymer. In some examples the lenses exhibit improved surface properties compared to uncoated lenses, such as reduced adhesion, increased wettability, increased lubricity, and/or increased lipid resistance.

Methods of manufacturing coated contact lenses

Hydrogel contact lenses that are derived from a polymerizable composition including at least one hydrophilic monomer and at least one phosphine-containing component are described. The hydrogel of the contact lenses can be a silicone hydrogel or a non-silicone hydrogel. Use of polymerizable compositions comprising a phosphine-containing component can be cured under both inert and air atmospheres, and can be used to form hydrogel contact lenses having improved shape retention properties, having improved resistance to discoloration. Batches of hydrogel contact lenses and methods of making hydrogel contact lenses are also described.

Phosphine-containing hydrogel contact lenses

A method is provided for manufacturing ophthalmically-acceptable, distortion-free silicone hydrogel contact lenses without the use of volatile organic solvents in the manufacturing process. The contact lenses are extract with an extraction liquid comprising an aqueous solution of a non-volatile organic solvent, such as ethyl lactate.

Silicone hydrogel contact lenses

HEMA-compatible siloxane monomers are described that can be used to manufacture contact lenses that combine the attributes of HEMA-based contact lenses with the high oxygen permeability of silicone hydrogel lenses. Optically clear silicone hydrogel contact lens can be manufactured that comprise a polymeric lens body that is the reaction product of a polymerizable composition comprising: a) at least 25 wt. % of at least one hydroxyalkyl methacrylate; and b) at least 20 wt. % of at least one HEMA-compatible polysiloxane.

Silicone hydrogel contact lenses for sustained release of beneficial polymers

Optically clear silicone hydrogel contact lenses are described that comprise a polymeric lens body that is the reaction product of a polymerizable composition comprising at least 25 wt. % of at least one hydroxyalkyl methacrylate; and at least 20 wt. % of at least one HEMA-compatible bifunctional polysiloxane comprising at least 6 siloxane groups and having an HLB value of at least 5 and/or a hydroxyl group content of at least 1 wt. %.

Silicone hydrogel contact lenses having a high water content are described. The lenses are derived from a polymerizable composition including a first siloxane monomer represented by formula (1): wherein m of formula (1) represents one integer from 3 to 10, n of formula (1) represents one integer from 1 to 10, Rof formula (1) is an alkyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and each Rof formula (1) is independently either a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; the lenses also include units derived from a second siloxane monomer having a number average molecular weight of at least 7,000 daltons, and at least one vinyl-containing cross-linking agent. The lenses have average equilibrium water contents from about 30% wt/wt to about 70% wt/wt when fully hydrated. Batches of silicone hydrogel contact lenses and methods of making silicone hydrogel contact lenses are also described.

High water content silicone hydrogel contact lenses

Silicone hydrogel contact lenses that are derived from a polymerizable composition including at least one siloxane monomer and at least one hydrophobic ethylene glycol methyl ether methacrylate-containing monomer, or at least one hydrophilic vinyl ether-containing monomer, or both, wherein, when the at least one hydrophobic ethylene glycol methyl ether methacrylate-containing monomer is present in the polymerizable composition, it is present in an amount of from 1 to 20 unit parts by weight, and when the at least one hydrophilic vinyl ether-containing monomer is present in the polymerizable composition, it is present in an amount of from 1 to 20 unit parts by weight, are described. Batches of silicone hydrogel contact lenses and methods of making silicone hydrogel contact lenses are also described.
