An organic EL display device includes at least a polarizer layer, a &#x3bb;/2 plate, a &#x3bb;/4 plate and an organic EL panel in this order, and an in-plane retardation Re2(550) of the &#x3bb;/4 plate at 550 nm satisfies 115&#x2266;Re2(550)&#x2266;155, and an in-plane retardation Re1(550) of the &#x3bb;/2 plate at 550 nm satisfies Re1(550)=2&#xd7;Re2(550)&#xb1;50 nm.

Organic EL display element having optical stack

Disclosed is an optical film in which a minute interference unevenness is reduced. The optical film comprises a transparent film having a thickness of 10 &#x3bc;m to 150 &#x3bc;m, and a first layer and a second layer, in this order, on the transparent film, wherein values of in-plain mean refractive indices thereof satisfy the formula: the second layer&#x3e;the first layer&#x3e;the transparent film; the difference in in-plane mean refractive indices between the first layer and the second layer and the difference in in-plane mean refractive indices between the first layer and the transparent film are each 0.02 or more; and the optical thickness D of the first layer satisfies the formula: 270&#xd7;N&#x2212;150&#x2212;75 nm&#x2266;D&#x2266;270&#xd7;N&#x2212;150+75 nm (1&#x2266;N&#x2266;8 where N is a natural number).
