A tape recording apparatus is configured for sequentially recording files when receiving a command to write the files from an external host. The tape recording apparatus includes a buffer for temporarily storing the files, a tape on which the files are recorded, a writing device for writing the files stored in the buffer on the tape, and a writing control device for performing control of sequentially writing the files stored in the buffer on the tape one by one. The writing control device memorizes designated delimiter positions when delimiter position designation commands are received from the external host, the delimiter position designation commands designating the delimiter positions of the files to be sequentially written.

Tape recording apparatus and method

Provided are techniques for cancellation of premigration of a member in a chain. A set of premigration messages are received, wherein a separate premigration message is received for each logical volume in a chain of logical volumes. While processing the premigration messages in order of receipt of each of the premigration messages, a cancel message indicating that premigration of a logical volume in the chain is to be cancelled is received. In response to determining that the logical volume whose premigration is to be cancelled has not already been transferred to physical storage media, premigration of the logical volume is cancelled by removing a premigration message for that logical volume from the set of premigration messages and premigration of each other logical volume in the chain of logical volumes is continued in order of receipt.

Cancellation of individual logical volumes in premigration chains

An external storage manager for managing an external storage storing one or more files and/or lower directories in association with a higher directory is disclosed, which causes computer to be equipped with directory acquiring means for acquiring a name of the higher directory, setting acquiring means for acquiring execution timing of a directory manager which manages the files and/or lower directories associated with the higher directory, directory displaying means for displaying on a screen the name of the higher directory acquired by the directory acquiring means, and setting displaying means for displaying on the screen the execution timing of the directory manager associated with the higher directory on condition that the higher directory displayed by the directory displaying means has been selected.
