Display device and production method thereof

To provide an image display device including a lower electrode, an upper electrode, and an electron acceleration layer composed of an insulator or a semiconductor provided there between, and further including a thin film electron source array that emits electrons from the upper electrode, and a phosphor surface, wherein degradation of an electron emission characteristic caused by an increase of a work function due to an adhesive material to the above-described upper electrode is suppressed. An amount of S content adhering to the upper electrode is set equal to or less than 20 mol % of a total amount of elements used as the upper electrode in terms of elements by using an element belonging to Group VIII or Group Ib or a laminated film or alloy film thereof as a component of the upper electrode of the thin film electron source.

Image display device and process of manufacture

The present invention ensures the hermetic bonding of a support body which is interposed between a face substrate and a back substrate and is formed of a plurality of members thus easily realizing the large-sizing of a screen of a display image and, at the same time, enhancing a hermetic property holding function of the image display device. A support body is interposed between a face substrate and a back substrate while surrounding a display region and hermetically seals both substrates using a sealing material. The support body is formed by hermetically bonding a plurality of support body members each other using a bonding material which has a softening point higher than a softening point of the sealing material.

Display device and method of manufacturing same

An image display device is constructed to prevent warping of a face substrate and a back substrate, can ensure the hermetic bonding of a support body, which is interposed between both substrates and is constituted of a combined body formed of a plurality of members, can easily from a large screen of the display device, and can enhance a hermetic property maintaining function. For this purpose, the support body, which is interposed between the face substrate and the back substrate and surrounds a display region, is formed of a projected parallel assembled body formed by combining a plurality of rod-like members having joining portions that cross each other at an approximately right angle. Projecting portions, which are constituted of distal end portions of the rod-like members, extend outwardly and are provided on a side of the support body outside of the display region.

Display device

The present invention provides an image display device in which it is possible to obtain an image display of high brightness and high contrast by preventing the halation which may be generated in a peripheral portion of a display image. By providing a carbon film which attenuates the reentry of secondary electrons, which are generated when electron beams impinge on an anodes, to a back surface of the anode, even when primary electrons impinge on the anode, the secondary electrons are hardly emitted from the anode. At the same time, a trace amount of emitted secondary electrons are mainly formed of electrons having a small energy. Hence, these emitted secondary electrons are scattered and hardly reenter the anode.

On a back surface of a back substrate on which electron emission sources are formed, a getter room is formed by the back substrate and a cup-shaped room member. In the inside of the getter room, a getter assembly which includes a getter housing which holds a getter and a getter support which supports the getter housing is arranged. End portions of the getter support are fixed to and arranged between the back substrate and the room member by a sealing material. The present invention provides an image display device which prevents the occurrence of cracks in the getter room thus suppressing the degradation of a display characteristic of the image display device.

Image display device

Rupture of distance holding members, aback substrate or a front substrate attributed to atmospheric pressure is suppressed in a display device in which, between the back substrate having cathode lines and plate-member control electrodes and the front substrate, a large number of distance holding members, which maintain distance between the substrates, are mounted in an erect manner. At portions where the distance holding members are brought into contact with the back substrate and/or the front substrate, a buffering/fixing material, which is constituted of a buffering material having high resiliency and an adhesive, is interposed for dispersing the atmospheric pressure applied from the back substrate and the front substrate substantially uniformly. Further, the distance holding members are fixed between the back substrate and the front substrate by a heat treatment and a pressurizing step.

A display device is disclosed for providing improved brightness and definition. The device includes a substrate which has anodes and phosphors formed on an inner surface thereof and a plurality of cathode lines that extend in one direction and include electron sources. Control electrodes are provided in a display region in a non-contrast manner. The control electrodes are formed on an inner surface of a back substrate and arranged to face a face substrate in an opposing manner. A support body is interposed between the face substrate and the back substrate such that the support body surrounds the display region and maintains a given distance. The device also includes a plurality of getters arranged between the support body and the partition wall body.

An image display device has a front substrate having an anode and phosphors, a rear substrate having electron sources and opposing the front substrate with a specified spacing therebetween, a support member which is sandwiched between the front and rear substrates, surrounds a display region, and maintains the specified spacing, and plural spacing-maintaining members which are sandwiched between the front and rear substrates in the display region, and are fixed at at least one of end faces of each of the spacing-maintaining members to a corresponding one of the front and rear substrates. Both end faces of the support member is hermetically sealed to the rear and front substrates, respectively. A height of the spacing-maintaining members is greater than that of the support member.

An image display device includes a front substrate having anodes and phosphors, a rear substrate having plural video signal wirings or lines and plural electron sources each formed on a corresponding one of the video signal wirings or lines, and disposed to face the front substrate with a predetermined spacing between the front and rear substrates and a support member which is sandwiched between the front and rear substrates, surrounds a display area formed therebetween and maintains the predetermined spacing. The support member is includes long-side portions of a uniform width disposed on long sides of the front substrate and short-side portions of a uniform width disposed on short sides of the front substrate. At least the long-side portions are curved convexly toward an outside of the display area.

Image display device with support member between front and rear substrates

A display device includes a front substrate having an anode and fluorescent materials on an inner surface, and a back substrate having a plurality of cathode lines and include electron sources, and a plurality of control electrodes allow electrons from the electron sources to emit to the front substrate side, on an inner surface thereof. The back substrate is arranged to face the front substrate in an opposed manner with a given gap therebetween, and an outer frame for holding the given gap is interposed between the front substrate and the back substrate and extends around the display region. An inner frame is arranged outside the display region and inside the outer frame, and a getter is provided between the outer frame and the inner frame.

To obtain a paste for electron sources which can enhance heat resistance of carbon nanotubes, which can suppress burn-out of the carbon nanotubes even during heating at a high temperature, and can exhibit a high electron emission performance, boron (B) is added to the paste formed of the carbon nanotubes and metal. Due to the addition of boron, the oxidation of the carbon nanotubes can be suppressed, and the degradation of the electron emission characteristics and the degradation of the uniformity of the emission of electrons during the heating process such as baking can be prevented.

Emissive display device

A display device includes a back substrate having a plurality of cathode lines, and a plurality of control electrodes, which are insulated from the cathode lines on an inner surface thereof, and a front substrate which is arranged to face the back substrate in an opposed manner with a set distance therebetween, and which has phosphors and an anode which constitute a display region, on an inner surface thereof. Distance holding members are provided for maintaining the set distance between the back substrate and the front substrate inside of the display region. The phosphors are constituted of three colors, and the cathode lines are formed into groups each consisting of three cathode lines corresponding to the three colors. The plurality of cathode lines include line portions and cathode portions which are wider than the line portions. Electron sources are formed on the cathode portions.

The present invention provides an image display device which can realize the recycling at a low cost by shortening a disassembling time of a face substrate and a back substrate. In a support frame which is bonded and fixed to a face substrate and a back substrate by way of sealing materials respectively, a cut portion whose spatial region expands from the inside to the outside is integrally formed on an end surface at a corner portion thereof. To outer portions of the cut portions, the sealing materialsare not fixed.

To provide a display device having the long lifetime and the high reliability by preventing the generation of a spark or a dark current between terminals of cathode lines and an anode, a shielding member is arranged between the terminals of the cathode lines and the anode so as to ensure shielding between the terminals and the anode.
