An electrophoresis apparatus includes a sample separating section for containing a sample separating medium for separating a sample in a horizontal direction, the sample separating section containing the sample separating medium in such a manner that the sample separating medium has an exposed portion at least one end of a surface of the sample separating medium, the surface being in parallel with the horizontal direction; and medium connecting means for connecting a sample containing medium to the sample separating medium at a connecting region, the sample containing medium containing a sample, and the connecting region satisfying a particular equation. By this, an electrophoresis technique with better accuracy than conventional arts can be provided.

A sample separation/adsorption appliance () according to one embodiment of the present invention includes: a first buffer solution tank () equipped with a first electrode () and used for holding a first buffer solution; a second buffer solution tank () equipped with a second electrode () and used for holding a second buffer solution; a sample separation section () that holds a sample separation medium () for separating a sample; and a conductive section () that holds a conductive medium (), wherein: the sample separation medium () and the conductive medium () are in contact with the sample adsorption member (), respectively, on the opposite sides thereof; an end of the sample separation medium () opposite to an end being in contact with the sample adsorption member () is connected to an inside of the first buffer solution tank (); and an end of the conductive medium () opposite to an end being in contact with the sample adsorption member () is connected to an inside of the second buffer solution tank (). The present invention is to provide a sample separation instrument used in a sample separation apparatus which includes: holding means for holding a first medium supporter which supports a first medium; and driving means for moving fixing means or the holding means in a direction parallel or perpendicular to a plane whose sides extend in the first direction and in the second directions. The sample separation instrument includes an insulator for storing a second medium which allows a sample separated in the first medium in the first direction to be further separated in the second direction different from the first direction, wherein: the insulator includes a first opening and a second opening each of which defines the second direction in which the second medium is electrified, and the second opening has a shape which allows the first medium containing the separated sample to be attached to the second medium along the first direction. The present invention realizes automation of the two-dimensional electrophoresis to enhance the convenience of the two-dimensional electrophoresis, to less depend on the operator's skill, and to enhance the reproducibility of the electrophoresis result.

There is provided an electrophoresis device including an insulator that includes: a first-separating-medium storing section for storing therein a first separating medium; a first opening and a second opening that are in communication with the first-separating-medium storing section and for defining a direction of separation on the first separating medium; and a third opening that is covered with a penetrable insulating thin film, wherein the first separating medium storing section is in communication with outside via the first opening and the second opening. A color image sensor has a white fluorescent tube as a light source, a microlens array with three rows of microlenses arranged vertically, a three-layer optical waveguide array and a three-line color CCD with color filters. The waveguides in each waveguide array layer are bent so that the interval between successive waveguides becomes narrower from the input end toward the output end. The three-line color CCD has three lines of light-receiving elements (photodiodes) as the light sensing portion. These lines in the light-receiving element array are arranged vertically at the same intervals as the waveguide layers are arranged. Further, a cylindrical lens is attached to cover the microlens array. Because of the presence of this cylindrical lens, the images of light beams incident on different microlenses of the microlens array corresponding to different waveguide layers are the same image from an identical area on the original.

In an optical waveguide reduction optical image sensor constituted by a polymeric optical waveguide array having a plurality of cores arranged into a one-dimensional array in a cladding substrate, and a photoelectric conversion element array for detecting light propagating through the polymeric optical waveguide array and converting the detected light into an electrical signal, a hollow thermal expansion suppressing member (jig) is mounted on the joint portion between the polymeric optical waveguide array and the photoelectric conversion element array, and the coefficient of linear thermal expansion of the thermal expansion suppressing member in the core array direction of the polymeric optical waveguide array is smaller than that of the polymeric optical waveguide array in the same direction.

Optical waveguide reduction optical image sensor

A waveguide type reduction type image sensor has a waveguide type light source having a light emitting element and a substrate including optical waveguides having a planar waveguide and a tapered waveguide. The waveguide type reduction type image sensor also has a light detecting section having a microlens array, an optical waveguide substrate and a CCD array. The microlens array converges reflected light from an original onto the incident face of the optical waveguide substrate. The optical waveguide substrate has L-shaped optical waveguides for guiding the converged light to the CCD array located on a substrate face perpendicular to the incident face. The CCD array converts the guided light to an electric signal and outputs this electric signal. A manufacturing method of this waveguide type reduction type image sensor is also shown.
