An optically compensated birefringence mode liquid crystal device includes a plurality of gate lines and source lines interesting each other in a plan view, and a plurality of switching elements formed in a one-to-one correspondence with the intersections of the gate lines and the source lines. The openings extend through the element region, and the emitted rays are reflected by the irradiated body to pass through the openings to form an image.
