Position sensors at an inlet of a mold cavity defined by upper and lower block molds detect distances from the passing upper and lower block molds. In response to outputs from the position sensors, any deflection of the leading end of the tundish nozzle, which can be inclined with respect to the melt outlet of a tundish, toward the upper or lower block molds defining the mold cavity is detected by a control device to generate a drive signal which is delivered to a hydraulic cylinder adapted to incline the tundish nozzle by extending or retracting the rod thereof, whereby the gaps between the leading end of the tundish nozzle and the upper and lower block molds are maintained uniform.

Pouring apparatus for moving-mold type continuous casting machine

Apparatus for pouring molten metal

In a mold apparatus for an endless track type continuous casting machine of the type in which a plurality of cooling blocks are interconnected with each other in the form of an endless chain to assemble a cooling block chain which can define a straight wall; a pair of said cooling block chains are disposed such that the straight wall thereof define a mold; and the cooling block chains are moved in synchronism with the casting speed or rate, a plurality of cooling holes are extended through each cooling block in the direction perpendicular to the direction of the movement thereof and in parallel with the straight wall section thereof; one or more cooling water pipes are disposed along one side surface of said straight wall section of each cooling block chain and are provided with a plurality of nozzles in line with the cooling holes of the cooling blocks so that the cooling water is injected through the nozzles to their corresponding cooling holes of the cooling blocks which are moving, thereby cooling the cooling blocks in contact with a casting with the cooling water. Therefore, the cooling blocks can be cooled very effectively; a satisfactory shell growth rate can be attained; and break-out or the like can be avoided even when the cooling block chains are stopped in case of emergency.

Mold apparatus for endless track type continuous casting machine

In a block type moving mold continuous casting machine of the type wherein a pair of block molds group each consisting of a plurality of block molds interconnected with each other in the form of an endless track are disposed in opposed relationship to define a mold cavity therebetween; and molten metal is supplied from one open end of the mold cavity and a solidified casting is continuously withdrawn out of the other open end of said mold cavity, a method and installation capable of removing a block mold which has been thermally deformed during the casting process from a carrier in a simple manner and quickly replacing with a new or repaired block mold.

In moving-mold type or dual-belt type continuous casting machines, the molten metal static pressure in the mold cavity is detected and the quantity of the molten metal poured through the tundish nozzle into the mold cavity is controlled such that the static pressure in the mold cavity is maintained at a predetermined range in which penetration of the molten metal into the gap between the tundish nozzle and the mold assembly can be avoided.

In an endless track type continuous casting installation of the type in which a mold cavity having variable thickness for a casting is defined by the combination of block molds each of which is of an L-shaped cross section and which are connected with each other in the form of a loop, thereby providing each of a pair of endless tracks, safety is ensured with the block molds of the pair of endless tracks are combined to define a mold cavity.

Moving molds are disposed in one array around the periphery of a casting wheel. A series of consecutive moving molds are closed during a predetermined angle range of the periphery of the casting wheel to define a continuous mold cavity between the closed moving molds and the casting wheel. A molten metal is poured into the thus defined continuous molding cavity at an upstream end thereof and is solidified while the casting wheel is rotated in unison with the moving molds. Then, moving molds are opened just before they arrive a cast outlet, and the cast is taken out.

A shearing device wherein a shear main body including an upper and a lower blades one of which is moved toward or away from the other for shearing an ingot is provided with an eccentric so that when the shear main body swings in synchronism with an ingot to be cut which is continuously moving, the upper and lower blades may be moved substantially horizontally in the direction of the passage of the ingot especially when the shearing of the ingot occurs, thereby preventing the 'nose bending' of the ingot. A plurality of upper and lower blades are provided for shearing a plurality of ingots in side-by-side relationship wherein the drive mechanism for each upper and lower blade pair includes a plurality of hydraulic cylinders aligned in the direction of ingot movement in order to reduce spacing between ingots.

Disclosed is a process and apparatus for multi-strand continuous casting wherein a plurality of strands may be spaced apart from each other by a distance only dependent upon the dimensions of a copper plate and water-cooling jacket of a mold because a multi-strand mold oscillation mechanism may be installed independently of the spacing between the adjacent strands and the amplitude of oscillation of each mold may be suitably adjusted depending upon the casting conditions but independently of each other. Cast products emerging from the molds are withdrawn through a multi-strand roll apron or bending unit, a multi-strand casting bow, a multi-strand straightener and a multi-strand table by a multi-strand-pinch-roll stand consisting of a plurality of coaxial multi-pinch-roller assemblies, the individual pinch rollers in each assembly being driven independently of each other.
