In order to prevent a line break phenomenon in reproduction of an image of an original in halftone dots, RGB signals of an original (2) are contour-enhanced by a USM circuit (10), and inputted in a halftone dot signal producing circuit (30) and an edge signal producing circuit (40). The halftone dot signal producing circuit (30) converts image signals (Y-IMA to Bk-IMA) to halftone dot signals (DOT1 to DOT10) at the timing of a clock signal (CL1), to output the halftone dot signals (DOT1 to DOT10) to a synthesizing circuit (11) in response to a first output start signal (ENST). However, an output start time is delayed from the time of receiving the signal (ENST) by a time required for the halftone dot processing. On the other hand, an edge signal producing circuit (40) produces a contour signal (BE, WE) from the image signals at the timing of a clock signal (CL2) having a higher frequency than the clock signal (CL1), and outputs the same in response to a second output start signal (ENSTD) which is delayed by the aforementioned time from the signal (ENST). The synthesizing circuit (11) synthesizes the halftone dot signals (DOT1 to DOT10) with the contour signal (BE, WE), thereby producing exposure signals (EX1 to EX10).

Image processing unit

A light source (8) and beam splitter (24) are connected with each other through a single mode optical fiber (14) cable so that a laser beam (B1) emitted from the light source is transmitted to the beam splitter through the single mode optical fiber cable, to be divided into a plurality of laser beams (B4). The respective laser beams emitted from the beam splitter are modulated by an acoustic-optical modulator (30), and then focused onto a photosensitive film (F).

Image processing conditions for scanning and processing an original by an electronic process scanner are set by an external image processing condition setting apparatus wherein a first system of coordinates is prepared in the scanner for processing, and a second system of coordinates is prepared in the image processing condition setting apparatus for position setting. An original cylinder is commonly used by both the scanner and apparatus, and by using a marked line formed on the surface of the cylinder as a reference position, both systems of coordinates are matched. A visual monitoring device which projects an image of a register mark onto the surface of the original cylinder is used in setting the image processing conditions. The visual monitoring device magnifies the image of the mark and a peripheral area of the surface of the cylinder, thereby enabling an operator to accurately locate a given position on the cylinder.

A method for recording a plurality of reproduction picture images of an original picture in which multiple laser beams modulated by an acoustic-optical modulator according to picture signals obtained by scanning the original picture in a scanning image reproduction system and an apparatus for carrying out the above described method. Particularly in the invention there is disclosed a means for adjusting mutual distance between each of the plurality of parallel laser beams in response to desired scanning line pitches.

Methods and apparatus for avoiding moire occurring in color scanning for graphic art, wherein light rays from a color original are passed through a pick-up lens, and prior to starting the color scanning, are modulated by means of a low-pass filter, which modulated rays are branched into two optical paths, on one of the paths a lattice plane is provided so as to project the modulated rays thereon, the lattice plane being beforehand selected in accordance with various conditions for scanning. A possible moire on the lattice plane is observed thereby to adjust the low-pass filter by replacement or displacement until the moire disappears on the lattice plane. Finally the light rays from the color original are modulated by the selected low-pass filter.
