A process for alkali saponification of polymer film is disclosed. The process comprises the steps of applying solution of an alkali onto a polymer film having a temperature of not lower than room temperature, and washing away the alkaline solution from the film.

Process for alkali saponification of cellulose ester film surface

A method for measuring a thiol group-containing compound, which comprises the steps of (1) contacting a sample containing a thiol group-containing compound with a thin membrane comprising a microparticle of a substance selected from the group consisting of a metal and a metal compound and comprising a hydrophilic binder; and (2) detecting a color change on the thin membrane resulting from interaction of the thiol group-containing compound and the microparticle, and a thin membrane used for said method. A thiol group containing compound such as an alkylmercaptan or a protein containing thiol groups can be conveniently and accurately measured.

Thin membrane for detecting thiol-containing compounds

There is disclosed a flaw-mending agent for photographs which comprises a liquid having a refractive index in the range of 1.5 to 1.8, and a viscosity in the range of 0.1 cP to 100 cP. There is also disclosed a method for mending flaws using the flaw-mending agent. The flaw-mending agent is useful for mending flaws on silver halide photographic light-sensitive materials, easy to handle, and high in flaw-mending effect.

Flaw-mending agent for photographs and method for mending flaws

A silver halide photographic material comprising, on a support, at least one silver halide emulsion layer, which has at least one hydrophilic colloid layer (including the silver halide emulsion layer) containing a water-soluble polymer comprising a COOH-containing monomer or a salt thereof which is water-insoluble at a pH.ltoreq.6 and water-soluble at a pH.gtoreq.10. The photographic material is well processed by ultra-rapid processing system, displaying an excellent drying property.

A silver halide photographic material comprising a support having thereon at least one silver halide emulsion layer, wherein the swelling ratio of the entire hydrophilic colloid layers on the acid polymer-containing layer side of the support of the silver halide photographic material having a hydrophilic colloid layer containing at least one acid polymer (having a carboxyl group-containing monomer unit content of at least 15 mol % or an acid value of at least 1.5 meq/g) on at least one silver halide emulsion layer-coated side thereof is at least 200% in distilled water, said acid polymer being dissolved in water and added to said hydrophilic colloid layer, and the swollen thickness of the above entire hydrophilic colloid layers at the time of the completion of the rinsing stage is not more than 8 .mu.m when said silver halide photographic material is processed (the swelling ratio in distilled water is a value obtained by incubating the photographic material at 40.degree. C. and 60% RH (percent relative humidity) for 16 hours, immersing it in distilled water at 21.degree. C. for 3 minutes and measuring the change of the thickness thereof).
