A sonic inspection device according to an embodiment includes: a sonic probe that includes a transducer configured to perform at least one of transmitting a sound wave and receiving a sound wave and has a sonic function surface constituting at least one of a transmitting surface of the sound wave and a receiving surface of the sound wave; a contact member that includes a couplant and a sheet-shaped member, the couplant having a first surface, which is in contact with the sonic function surface of the sonic probe directly or while interposing an intermediate member, and a second surface on an opposite side of the first surface, and containing an elastomer, and the sheet-shaped member laminated with the couplant to be in contact with the second surface and containing a polymer; and a loading mechanism configured to apply a load to the contact member.

Sonic inspection device, sonic inspection method, and contact member

According to one embodiment, an inspection device includes a transmitter configured to transmit a first ultrasonic wave, a receiver on which the first ultrasonic wave is incident, and a receiving-side waveguide located between the receiver and an inspection position. The receiver is configured to output a signal corresponding to the incident first ultrasonic wave. The inspection position is between the transmitter and the receiver. The first ultrasonic wave passes through the receiving-side waveguide. An inspection object passes through the inspection position along a second direction crossing a first direction. The first direction is from the transmitter toward the receiver. The receiving-side waveguide includes at least one of a first structure or a second structure. In the first structure, the receiving-side waveguide includes a tubular member and an inner member. The inner member is located inside the tubular member. In the second structure, the receiving-side waveguide includes a tubular member.

Inspection device and inspection method

According to one embodiment, an inspection device includes a transmitter, a receiver, and a supporter. The transmitter is configured to transmit a first ultrasonic wave including burst waves having a first period Tp. The receiver on which the first ultrasonic wave is incident is configured to output a signal corresponding to the incident first ultrasonic wave. The supporter is provided between the transmitter and the receiver. The supporter is configured to support an inspection object. The first period Tp (s), a distance Dx (m), and a velocity vx (m/s) satisfy 2Dx/((n+1)&#xb7;vx)&#x3c;Tp&#x3c;2Dx/(n&#xb7;vx). n is 1 or 2. The distance Dx is a shorter distance of first and second distances. The first distance is a distance along a first direction between the transmitter and the supporter. The second distance is a distance along the first direction between the supporter and the receiver.

According to one embodiment, a drive circuit includes a first circuit part. The first circuit part includes a first detecting part, a second detecting part, a first circuit, and a second circuit. The first detecting part is configured to detect a first piezoelectric element current flowing in a first piezoelectric element, and output a first detection signal corresponding to the first piezoelectric element current. The second detecting part is configured to detect a first capacitance element current flowing in a first capacitance element, and output a second detection signal corresponding to the first capacitance element current. The first circuit includes a first input terminal and a second input terminal. The first circuit is configured to apply a first drive signal to the first piezoelectric element and the first capacitance element. The second circuit is configured to supply a first differential signal to the second input terminal.

According to an embodiment, an inspection device includes a transmitter, a receiver, and a processor. The transmitter transmits a first ultrasonic wave including burst waves of a first period. The first ultrasonic wave is incident on an inspection object between the transmitter and the receiver. The first ultrasonic wave passed through the inspection object is incident on the receiver. The receiver outputs a signal corresponding to the first ultrasonic wave. The processor obtains the signal and performs a first operation. The first operation includes deriving first and second signal values from the signal, and inspecting the inspection object based on at least one of the first signal values and at least one of the second signal values. The first signal values correspond to maximum values of the signal in each of first periods The second signal values correspond to maximum values of the signal in each of second periods.

A sensor includes a first element part having a first member and a first element. The first member is a acoustic tubular waveguide and extends along a first direction. The acoustic tubular waveguide includes a first opening and a second opening. A direction from the second opening toward the first opening is along the first direction. Acoustic sensor having waveguide and inspection device

A molecular detection apparatus includes a detector. The detector includes: a vibrator having a piezoelectric member that has a first surface and a second surface, a first electrode connected to the first surface, a second electrode connected to the second surface, and a third electrode connected to the second surface and disconnected from the second electrode; a sensitive film overlapping at least one part of the second electrode and at least one part of the third electrode and configured to change a vibration frequency of the vibrator in response to an interaction with target molecules; and a detection electrode to detect the changed vibration frequency.

Molecular detection apparatus

According to one embodiment, a display element includes a light guide and a light extraction unit. The light guide extends in one direction, and is optically transmissive. The light extraction unit includes a displacement layer, a reflective layer provided on the displacement layer, and a light extraction layer provided on the reflective layer to oppose the light guide. A plurality of prisms are formed in one major surface of the light extraction layer opposing the reflective layer. A trough line is formed between mutually-adjacent ridgelines. The element has at least one selected from a configuration in which an angle between one of the oblique surfaces and one other major surface of the light extraction layer opposing the light guide is different between corresponding oblique surfaces of two mutually-adjacent prisms and a configuration in which the ridgelines of the prisms are non-parallel to the trough line between the ridgelines.

Display element and display device including a light guide and light extractor

According to one embodiment, a display device includes a light source, a light guide, a light extraction unit, and a drive circuit. The light source emits a first light. The light guide has a first end, a second end arranged in a first direction, and a side surface extending in the first direction. The light guide guides the first light from the first end toward the second end. The light extraction unit opposes the side surface, and includes first and second conductive units provided parallel to the side surface. The light extraction unit extracts the first light guided inside the light guide by coming close to the side surface for a state in which a voltage is applied to the first and second conductive units. The drive circuit applies the voltage between the first and second conductive units.

Display device

A display apparatus includes a plurality of light sources which emit light beams, a plurality of optical waveguides which guide the light beams, a plurality of scanning lines which are arranged so as to intersect with the optical waveguides, a plurality of light output elements which, at intersections of the optical waveguides and the scanning lines, output the light beams guided in the optical waveguides by electric signals from the scanning lines, and a scanning line driving unit which drives the scanning lines in a direction opposite to a direction in which the light beams are guided.

According to one embodiment, a display device includes: a plurality of light guide units; a light source; a support substrate; a first electrode transmissive to light provided on the second major surface; a counter substrate opposed to the second major surface and provided away from the first electrode; a second electrode transmissive to light provided on a surface of the counter substrate opposed to the second major surface; and a plurality of spacers provided between the support substrate and the counter substrate and arranged between adjacent ones of the plurality of light guide units when projected onto a plane parallel to the first direction and the second direction. Optical characteristics in a region which is surrounded by adjacent ones of the spacers, the first electrode and the second electrode are changed by a voltage which is applied between the first electrode and the second electrode.

A light-emitting element includes: a light source; a light guide member having a columnar shape and comprising a plurality of side surfaces containing a pair of parallel total reflection principal surfaces and other surfaces than the total reflection principal surfaces, an upper bottom surface disposed so that light from the light source reaches the total reflection principal surfaces, and a lower bottom surface disposed opposite to the upper bottom surface; clad portions provided on the other side surfaces of the light guide member than the total reflection principal surfaces, the clad portions having a smaller refractive index than that of the light guide member; and a light extraction portion provided on one part of the total reflection principal surfaces.

According to one embodiment, a display device includes a light-guiding body, a light source, a wavelength selection transmission layer, and a light control layer. The light-guiding body has a first major surface, a second major surface opposite to the first major surface, and a side face connecting the first major surface and the second major surface. The wavelength selection transmission layer is provided on the second major surface. The first major surface has a plurality of concave portions having inclined faces inclined relative to the first major surface. A ratio of a total area of the plurality of the concave portions projected on the first major surface, relative to an area of the first major surface is 8% to 25%. The plurality of the concave portions is evenly provided in the first major surface.

Display device and backlight for display device

According to one embodiment, a display device includes a display unit, an imaging element, and a first reflecting unit. The display unit emits a light. The imaging element has a major surface and is configured to form a real image of an object at a symmetric position of the object with the major surface serving as a plane of symmetry. The imaging element includes a portion not overlapping the display unit as viewed along a normal direction of the major surface. The first reflecting unit includes a portion facing the major surface, and is configured to reflect the light emitted from the display unit and to cause the light to be incident on the portion of the imaging element not overlapping the display unit.

In one embodiment, in an optical device, a bar-shaped optical waveguide has either a polygonal or circular cross-sectional shape. A light entry portion is formed in a circumferential area of a first-end surface of the optical waveguide. The light entry portion includes a sloping surface having a normal vector containing a component in a circumferential direction of the first-end surface. An incident light beam travels towards a second-end surface of the optical waveguide while repeating total reflections on a side surface of the optical waveguide. The incident light beam travels without passing through a central portion in a cross section of the optical waveguide. A light exit portion is formed in the side surface of the optical waveguide. The light exit portion is configured to let the light beam in the optical waveguide out of the optical waveguide.
