In the emulsion polymerization of a monomer mixture comprising an aromatic vinyl compound, a vinyl cyanide compound and if desired, other vinyl compounds copolymerizable therewith in an aqueous medium, the vinyl cyanide compound is further added to the polymerization system in a controlled velocity during the substantial period of polymerization from the initial stage. When the copolymer thus obtained is incorporated into, for example, an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene terpolymer composition, thermoplastic resin compositions not coloring upon molding are obtained with a good impact resistance and heat resistance.

Thermoplastic resin compositions

A solid catalyst for olefin polymerization is obtained by treating magnesium halide with a sulfur compound or sulfur and a sulfur compound and further treating with an electron donor compound and a halogen-containing titanium compound. Alternatively, the magnesium halide is treated with halogen and/or an interhalogen compound and sulfur and/or a sulfur compound and is further treated with an electron donor compound and a halogen-containing titanium compound. The solid catalyst thus obtained is used for a catalytic system for olefin polymerization in combination with an organometallic compound.

Catalysts for polymerization of olefins

A solid catalyst for olefin polymerization is obtained by treating magnesium halide with halogen or a halogen compound and further treating with an electron donative compound and a halogen-containing titanium compound. The halogen atom of the halogen or halogen compound as the treating agent must be different from the halogen atom of magnesium halide as the substrate. This solid catalyst is used for a catalytic system for olefin polymerization in combination with an organometallic compound.

A process for producing a conjugated diene polymer, which comprises polymerizing (a) a conjugated diene, (b) two or more conjugated dienes or (c) at least one conjugated diene with a monovinyl aromatic compound, at a temperature of from about 30 to about 100.degree. C in an inert hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of a catalyst composition comprising (i) an alkenyl sodium containing 3 to 8 carbon atoms in the alkenyl moiety and (ii) a sodium alkoxide of a dimethylalkyl carbinol containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms in the alkyl moiety.
