The side airbag device includes an airbag in a folded state, including a pair of sheets provided facing each other, and an inflator including a supply port for supplying gas and configured to supply gas into the airbag. The airbag, with the pair of sheets deployed, includes a first portion including one end of the sheets in a first direction, a second portion including the other end, a third portion positioned between the first portion and the second portion, and a fourth portion positioned between the first portion and the third portion. The airbag is folded into a first state with the first portion and the fourth portion positioned between a pair of sheet parts corresponding to a part of the pair of sheets and included in the third portion, and further folded into a second state with a part of the pair of sheet parts arranged to sandwich the first portion and the fourth portion, folded with an accordion fold in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. The supply port is arranged between another part of the pair of sheet parts.

Side airbag device and airbag folding method

A knee protection airbag device is provided with an airbag, an inflator, an airbag cover, and an attachment base to be connected to a vehicle body side member. The airbag cover includes a door portion that allows forming of a protrusion-permitting opening when pushed by the airbag that inflates, a door disposition wall portion that covers a lower portion of the airbag in a folded state, and connecting wall portions that extend upward from front and rear edges of the door disposition wall portion and that are connected to the attachment base. The airbag cover defines an accommodating recess capable of accommodating the airbag that is formed by bending a portion of the recessed grooves for bending that are formed by performing press working on a sheet member made of a non-woven fabric.

Knee protection airbag device

An airbag main body is stored in a storage portion in a storage form and includes an elongated stacked portion. The stacked portion includes a first stacked section, which forms a lower part, and a second stacked section, which forms a part above the first stacked section and accommodates a gas generator. In the storage form, the first stacked section includes a plurality of bent sections arranged along a flowing direction of inflation gas. Among the bent sections, the bent section that is located at the most downstream position in the inflation gas flowing direction is a downstream bent section. Among the bent sections, at least the downstream bent section is arranged behind the second stacked section.

Side airbag apparatus

A lateral partition of a side airbag apparatus extends in a front-rear direction to divide the interior of an airbag into an upper inflation chamber and a lower inflation chamber. A vertical partition extends vertically and includes a communication portion. The vertical partition divides the upper inflation chamber into an upper-rear inflation chamber, to which inflation gas from a gas generator is supplied, and an upper-front inflation chamber, to which the inflation gas is supplied via the communication portion. An inner tube regulates the flow of the inflation gas to direct to the upper-rear inflation chamber and the lower inflation chamber. The rear ends of two first fabric portions of the vertical partition are joined to the upper parts of the front ends of two second fabric portions of the inner tube by a first vertical joint portion.
