When transition to the second situation occurs without execution of a lane change after the control device enters the state in which the start of the driving support is possible in the first situation, the control device holds the state in which the start of the driving support is possible until a second time point that is one of: a time point when a predetermined time has elapsed from a first time point that is a time point when the transition to the second situation occurs; or a time point when the own vehicle has traveled over a predetermined distance from the first time point.

A driving support apparatus comprises a sensor configured to acquire sensor information that is used to acquire a distance between a vehicle and an object, and a controller configured to execute a driving support control using a first distance, which is acquired by applying a first recognition method to the sensor information, representing a distance between the vehicle and a target object as a control distance.
