A processor inputs/outputs data related to data input/output with respect to the volume to/from a page of the logical storage area; maps the volume to data of the logical storage area; is able to release the storage area in units of the pages; includes a plurality of the volumes that can share data of the logical storage area; performs garbage collection of deleting data which is not referred to from any of the plurality of volumes as invalid data, moving data which is referred to from any of the volumes to another page, and releasing a storage area of a page on which the data is deleted and the data is moved; and stores a plurality of pieces of data in the page of a movement destination such that the plurality of pieces of data stored in the same page is mapped from a same volume by the garbage collection.

Storage system

The operational performance and the I/O performance of Snapshots in a storage system are balanced. In a storage system, meta information of data appended to a log structured area is composed of meta information of a first tier and meta information of a second tier which correlate location information of data in a logical volume and location information of data in the log structured area. When creating a snapshot of the logical volume, a data management unit creates, in the same meta information area as a replication source, a replication of the meta information of the first tier stored in a plurality of meta information areas assigned to a plurality of controllers. A data control unit accesses the data of the log structured area from the logical volume, and accesses the data of the log structured area from the snapshot.

Storage system and data replication method in storage system

A snapshot virtual device (SS-VDEV) is prepared for each snapshot family (SS-Family) and a deduplication virtual device is prepared apart from the SS-VDEV. When the same data is in a plurality of VOLs of the SS-Family, a storage system maps a plurality of addresses of the same data among the plurality of VOLs to address of the SS-VDEVs of the SS-Family. When duplicated data is in two or more SS-VDEVs, the storage system maps two or more addresses of the duplicated data of the two or more SS-VDEVs to addresses corresponding to the duplicated data among the deduplication virtual devices.

Storage system and storage control method of data deduplication between virtual devices

In a storage system, processing related to data replication includes associating first control information with a logical volume and a snapshot and second control information with data on a pool volume. Data of the logical volume and the snapshot is managed by associating the first control information with the second control information. A time series of the logical volume and one or more snapshots is managed using generation information associated with the first control information, for each piece of data on the pool volume. Generation information indicating a generation in which the data is created is managed in association with the second control information. Invalidation of the first and second control information asynchronously with a processing of data related to the logical volume and the snapshot is executed. Whether the invalidation is possible is determined by referring to the generation information associated with the first and second control information.

In a storage system having a controller constructing a provision volume provided to a server system and an addition volume in which data to be stored in the provision volume is added and stored, when a provision volume copying instruction is received, the controller inserts a start marker indicating start time point of copying into address change history information and copies address conversion information of a provision volume while receiving update data to a provision volume from the server system, as address conversion information of a copy-destination volume. On the basis of a start marker of address change history information and history information, a change from start to completion of copying of the address conversion information of a copy-destination volume is reset to a state at the start time point of copying.
