Provided is an apparatus to properly measure the bending amount of an optical waveguide routed in an electronic device or the like. An optical signal outputted with a second wavelength from the optical waveguide is received by a light receiving unit. In this case, the optical waveguide allows propagation only in a basic mode at a first wavelength and the second wavelength is a wavelength where the optical waveguide allows propagation at least in a primary mode in addition to a basic mode. The bending amount of the optical waveguide is obtained by a processing unit on the basis of the amount of a primary mode component included in the optical signal with the second wavelength.

A light-emitting device of one embodiment of the present disclosure includes: a light source section including a surface light source; a light reflective film that covers a surface of the light source section and has one or more openings on a light outputting surface of the light source section; and a reflecting structure that is provided on side of the light outputting surface of the light source section and has one or more light reflecting surfaces around the one or more openings, the one or more light reflecting surfaces reflecting light outputted from the one or more openings in a predetermined direction.

The present technology relates to a light source apparatus that makes it possible to provide a widely applicable light source apparatus. A light source apparatus includes a transmissive board that transmits light emitted by a light-emitting element, a circuit board that drives the light-emitting element and is joined to the transmissive board, and a light-emitting board that has the light-emitting element and is connected to the circuit board via a first bump. Further, in the light source apparatus, the circuit board and an organic board are configured to be connected by sandwiching the light-emitting board via second bumps. The present technology can be applied to a light source apparatus that emits light.

The present technology provides an optical connector of a collimated coupling system that is less affected by an external impact. Provided is an optical connector including a first optical path converting unit having one or more reflection planes, the first optical path converting unit configured to emit light in an opposite direction to light propagation. The first optical path converting unit may be configured to emit light toward a second optical path converting unit that is present when the optical connector is connected with another optical connector. The first optical path converting unit and the second optical path converting unit may be configured to form a Z-shaped optical path.

The present disclosure relates to a ranging device and a ranging module that allow a light emitting element and a light receiving element to be integrated with a simple structure. A light emitting substrate having a light emitting element is connected to a circuit substrate through first bumps, and a light receiving substrate having a single light emitting element or light emitting elements that are two-dimensionally disposed is connected to the circuit substrate through second bumps. The optical axis of a lens, the optical axis of the light emitting element, and the center axis of the light receiving element are disposed on substantially the same axis. The present technique can be applied to a ranging device that carries out ranging, and so forth.

To relax the accuracy with respect to a positional deviation, and thus to reduce costs. An optical waveguide and a light path adjuster are included, the optical waveguide performing propagation only in a reference mode at a first wavelength, the light path adjuster adjusting a light path such that input light is guided to a core of the optical waveguide. Communication is performed using light of a second wavelength that enables the optical waveguide to perform propagation in at least a first order mode in addition to the reference mode. When there is a positional deviation, input light that is not headed for the core of the optical waveguide is guided to the core due to the light path adjuster adjusting a path of the light. This results in a reduction in a loss of coupling of optical power. Further, propagation is performed by the optical waveguide in at least the first order mode in addition to the reference mode, the at least the first order mode being generated due to the light path adjuster adjusting a path of the input light. This results in a reduction in a loss of coupling of optical power. This makes it possible to relax the accuracy with respect to a positional deviation, and thus to reduce costs.

Optical communication apparatus, optical communication method, and optical communication system

To relax the accuracy with respect to a positional deviation, and thus to reduce costs. An optical waveguide is included that performs propagation only in a reference mode at a first wavelength. Communication is performed using light that has a second wavelength and includes a component of at least a first order mode in addition to a component of the reference mode. When light entering the optical waveguide deviates with respect to an optical axis or deviates angularly, propagation is performed in at least the first order mode in addition to the reference mode, the first order mode being generated due to the deviation with respect to the optical axis or the angular deviation. This results in a reduction in a loss of coupling of optical power. This makes it possible to relax the accuracy with respect to a deviation with respect to an optical axis or an angular deviation, and thus to reduce costs.

The coupling loss of optical power on a reception side due to an axis deviation on a transmission side is satisfactorily mitigated. A connector body including an optical path adjusting unit and a lens is provided. The optical path adjusting unit adjusts an optical path such that the diameter of incident light is reduced while the incident angle is kept. The lens collects light whose optical path has been adjusted, and causes the light to be incident on a light receiver. For example, light incident on the optical path adjusting unit is collimated light. Furthermore, for example, the optical path adjusting unit has a through hole in a central portion. While the incident angle of light to the light receiver satisfies an NA, the focal distance of the lens is decreased. This can mitigate the coupling loss of optical power on a reception side due to an axis deviation on a transmission side.

[Solving Means] An optical coupling device according to the present technology includes a light receiving and emitting device and an optical device. The light receiving and emitting device includes a light emitter that emits outgoing light, and a light receiver that receives incident light from outside. The light receiver has a light passing part through which the outgoing light passes. The light passing part is arranged on an optical axis of the incident light. The optical device causes incident light around the optical axis of the incident light to be refracted so as to be apart from the optical axis and to enter the light receiver.

An optical path conversion device according to an embodiment of the present technology is disposed between a plurality of optical devices that are arranged in one line or in a zigzag manner and a plurality of optical fibers that are arranged in one line or in a zigzag manner with an arrangement pitch different from an arrangement pitch of the plurality of optical devices. The optical path conversion device includes a light refractive surface for pitch conversion.

The illumination lens enables emitting light having a more favorable characteristic with a simpler configuration.

Any of the device sections includes a first surface that faces the wavelength conversion layer, and a second surface that faces the substrate, and an upper end of the buried layer is disposed at a position higher than the second surface of the any of the device sections.
