A cutting insert includes a rake face, a flank face, and a cutting edge constituted of a ridgeline between the rake face and the flank face. The cutting edge has a first cutting edge portion for corner processing, a second cutting edge portion for low cut-in pulling processing, a third cutting edge portion for high cut-in pulling processing, a fourth cutting edge portion for finished-surface processing, a first connection cutting edge portion, a second connection cutting edge portion, and a third connection cutting edge portion. The fourth cutting edge portion is disposed between the first cutting edge portion and the second cutting edge portion. The second cutting edge portion is disposed between the fourth cutting edge portion and the third cutting edge portion. Each of the first cutting edge portion, the second cutting edge portion, and the fourth cutting edge portion has a curved shape.

A cutting tool, including a cutting edge portion composed of a cubic boron nitride sintered material, wherein the cutting edge portion has: a flank face; a rake face contiguous to the flank face; and a cutting edge positioned on a ridgeline of the flank face and the rake face, an arithmetical mean height Sa of the flank face is 0.5 &#x3bc;m or more and 3.0 &#x3bc;m or less, the Sa is measured in accordance with ISO25178-2:2012, and an oxygen concentration of the flank face is 10 mass % or more and 50 mass % or less.

A cutting tool according to an aspect of the present disclosure includes a shank, a joint, and a cutting portion attached through the joint to the shank. The cutting portion includes a core and a surface portion. The surface portion is disposed around a central axis of the cutting portion to cover an outer circumferential surface of the core. The surface portion includes a cutting edge. The cutting edge is disposed on an outer circumferential surface of the surface portion and formed in a helical shape about the central axis. The surface portion is a composite sintered material including a hard phase formed of a plurality of diamond particles and a plurality of cubic boron nitride particles, and a binder phase forming the remainder.

A sintered material includes cubic boron nitride grains and a binder, a grain size D50 of the cubic boron nitride grains when a cumulative value of the cubic boron nitride grains is 50% in an area-based grain size distribution being more than 0.5 &#x3bc;m and less than or equal to 5 &#x3bc;m, more than or equal to 70 volume % and less than or equal to 98 volume % of the cubic boron nitride grains being included in the sintered material, the binder being composed of ACrN, where 0&#x2264;x&#x2264;1, and a remainder, the remainder being composed of at least one of a first element and a compound including the first element and a second element, the first element being one or more elements selected from a group consisting of W, Co, Ni, Mo, Al, and Cr, the second element being one or more elements selected from a group consisting of nitrogen, carbon, oxygen, and boron.

Sintered material and cutting tool including same

A cutting tool includes a shaft portion and a plurality of edge region groups. The ridgeline between the first rake face portion and the first flank face portion constitutes a first cutting edge portion. The ridgeline between the second rake face portion and the second flank face portion constitutes a second cutting edge portion. As seen from the direction perpendicular to a plane tangent to the outer peripheral surface, in a state where the central axis overlaps a first end on the front end side of the first cutting edge portion, the inclination angle of the first cutting edge portion relative to the central axis is larger than the inclination angle of a straight line relative to the central axis, the straight line connecting the first end to a second end on the front end side of the second cutting edge portion.

A cutting tool according to one aspect of the present disclosure includes an attaching portion, a cutting portion having a core portion and a surface portion, and a joint portion. The attaching portion includes a hard component and a hard material. The hard component is at least one selected from the group consisting of TiC, TiCN, W, WC, AlO, and a combination of at least one of CBN and diamond and at least one of W and WC. The hard material includes one or two or more types of iron group elements, and has a Young's modulus of not more than 350 GPa. The core portion includes a cemented carbide material. The surface portion includes PCD or CBN. The cutting portion has a chamfer portion. The surface portion includes a groove, a flank face, and a cutting edge. The cutting edge extends toward the attaching portion.

A composite sintered material contains cubic boron nitride particles and binder particles. The composite sintered material contains 40 vol % or more and 80 vol % or less of the cubic boron nitride particles. The binder particles contain TiCN particles. The composite sintered material shows a first peak belonging to a (200) plane of the TiCN particles in a range in which a Bragg angle 2&#x3b8; is 41.7&#xb0; or more and 42.6&#xb0; or less in an X-ray diffraction spectrum measured using a Cu-K&#x3b1; ray as a ray source.

Composite sintered material and surface-coated boron nitride sintered material tool

A surface-coated boron nitride sintered body tool is provided, in which a cutting edge portion includes a compound sintered body and a coating layer. The compound sintered body includes cBN particles. The compound sintered body includes 45-80 vol % of cBN particles. A first particle size distribution curve of the cBN particles has one or more peaks in a range in which a particle size is 0.1-0.7 &#x3bc;m. A second particle size distribution curve of the cBN particles has a first peak having a maximum peak height in a range in which the particle size is 2.0-7.0 &#x3bc;m. An integral value ratio (I/I&#xd7;100) is 1-20, in the second particle size distribution curve, the integral value Ibeing in the range in which the particle size is 0.1-0.7 &#x3bc;m, and the integral value Ibeing in an entire range.

Surface-coated boron nitride sintered body tool

Provided is a cubic boron nitride sintered body having good wear resistance and fracture resistance. A method for manufacturing a cubic boron nitride sintered body of the present invention is a method for manufacturing a cubic boron nitride sintered body having a cubic boron nitride particle content of 80% by volume or more and 99% by volume or less. The method includes a first step of preparing cubic boron nitride particles; a second step of coating surfaces of the cubic boron nitride particles with a coating material so as to obtain coated particles; a third step of mixing the coated particles and a binder to obtain a mixture; and a fourth step of sintering the mixture.

Method for manufacturing cubic boron nitride sintered body, and cubic boron nitride sintered body

A joined product has a cemented carbide sintered compact serving as a first material to be joined and a cBN sintered compact serving as a second material to be joined, wherein: the first material to be joined and the second material to be joined are joined together via a joining material disposed therebetween and containing titanium (Ti); and a titanium nitride (TiN) compound layer having a thickness of 10-300 nm is produced at an interface between the second material to be joined and the joining material.
