Provided is a method of installing a heat insulating block on a furnace shell which enables a heat insulating block to be firmly fixed to a furnace wall but does not require much time and costs for making the heat insulating block, and which further offers good workability at a site. The method of installing a heat insulating block on a furnace shell includes: inserting a beam of a fixture into a fold of an inorganic fiber aggregate mat that is folded up to form a heat insulating block; and fixing the fixture and a furnace shell to each other.

A heat-insulating protective member for skid posts contains a needled blanket of inorganic fibers. At least some of the needled blanket has, disposed therein, an impregnation part where an oxide-precursor-containing liquid is adherent in an undried state. The impregnation part has a water content of 50-400 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of the inorganic fibers of the impregnation part. The water content of the heat-insulating protective member is 50-400 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of the inorganic fibers of the heat-insulating protective member. The oxide-precursor-containing liquid contains ingredients that, upon burning, yield a composition containing AlOand CaO. The oxide-precursor-containing liquid is adherent in an amount of 2-50 parts by mass in terms of oxide amount per 100 parts by mass of the inorganic fibers of the impregnation part. A molar ratio of Al/Ca, in the whole impregnation part is 10-330.

The inorganic fiber molded body of the present invention is characterized in that the molded body has an extremely light weight, and is free from problems such as scattering of fibers and particulate matters from a surface thereof and environmental pollution such as generation of harmful gases. The present invention relates to an inorganic fiber molded body comprising inorganic fibers and inorganic binder particles and having at least one set of a high-fiber density region and a low-fiber density region, in which a ratio of a content of the binder particles in the high-fiber density region to a content of the binder particles in the low-fiber density region as measured by a predetermined method is 0.5:1 to 5:1; and a number-average particle diameter and the number of the inorganic binder particles on an outermost surface of the molded body as measured by a predetermined method are 20 to 35 &#x3bc;m and less than 15, respectively.
