A light emitting module includes a light guiding plate being light-transmissive and having a first main surface being as a light exiting surface and a second main surface positioned opposite to the first main surface; a light emitting element disposed at the second main surface and configured to emit light toward the light guiding plate; an optical function part being greater in size than a light emitting surface of the light emitting element, the optical function part being disposed in the first main surface so as to correspond to an optical axis of the light emitting element; and a light-cutting scattering layer disposed on a first main surface side of the light guiding plate so as to correspond to the optical axis of the light emitting element. The light-cutting scattering layer covers the optical function part as seen in a plan view.

A method for manufacturing a linear light source includes: providing a base having a first surface defining recesses in an array in a first direction, and a second surface having a curved contour in a cross section orthogonal to the first direction and a straight contour in a cross section parallel to the first direction; providing light sources each having a top surface and a bottom surface including electrodes; placing the light sources at positions overlapping the recesses in a plan view with the top surface of the light source facing a bottom surface of the recess; placing a first reflective member to cover the light sources and the first surface so that the electrodes of the light sources are exposed; placing a second reflective member on the second surface; and cutting the base along the first direction to define a third surface continuous with the first and second surfaces.

A method for manufacturing a light emitting module includes: providing a light source including a first surface having a pair of electrodes, and a second surface; providing a light guide plate including a first main surface and a second main surface, the light guide plate defining a through-hole extending through the light guide plate from the first main surface to the second main surface, the through-hole having a first penetration portion disposed on a first main surface side, a second penetration portion disposed on a second main surface side, and an intermediate penetration portion connecting the first penetration portion and the second penetration portion, the intermediate penetration portion being narrower in width than the second surface of the light source; and disposing the light source in the second penetration portion of the light guide plate with a joining member being interposed between the light source and the light guide plate.

The first light-diffusing sheet includes first protrusions at an upper surface side thereof. The second light-diffusing sheet includes second protrusions at an upper surface side thereof. The third light-diffusing sheet includes third protrusions at an upper surface side thereof. A shape of the third protrusion may be different from a shape of the first protrusions and/or a shape of the second protrusions.
