A patient support apparatus is defined that includes a patient support having one or more pads for supporting a patient's torso and hip in a generally horizontal orientation. At least one, elongated leg support extends from the patient support. The leg support is movable through a generally horizontal plane. A portion of the leg support is declinable and inclinable from the horizontal plane. A traction device is connected to the leg support. The traction device is attachable to a patient's leg and operable to exert a traction force on the patient's leg along an axis of the traction device. The traction device is connected to the leg support by a slide assembly and the traction device can be secured stationary relative to the leg support or the traction device can slide relative to the leg support.

Medical table with leg support

A patient support apparatus, comprising a patient support having one or more pads for supporting a patient's torso and hip in a generally horizontal orientation. At least one, elongated leg support extends from the patient support. The leg support is movable through a generally horizontal plane. A portion of the leg support is declinable and inclinable from the horizontal plane. A traction device is connected to the leg support. The traction device is attachable to a patient's leg and operable to exert a traction force on the patient's leg along an axis generally parallel to the leg support. The traction device is connected to the leg support by a slide assembly and the traction device can be secured stationary relative to the leg support or the traction device can slide relative to the leg support.

A cable management system for managing at least one cable extending through a support arm and through a hub, comprised of a spool disposed in a hub. The spool has an opening extending through a wall of the spool. A cable carrier is disposed within the support arm. The cable carrier is dimensioned to contain at least one cable extending through the support arm, a first end fixed relative to the support arm and a second end extending towards the hub. The cable carrier is disposed in the support arm such that the cable carrier replicates upon itself to define a first run and a second run. The second end of the cable carrier is movable relative to the hub when the support arm rotates about the hub, wherein the first run shortens and the second run lengthens when the support arm rotates in a direction about the hub.

Internal cable management system for movable support arm

A surgical light system () includes a lighthead () coupled to a suspension arm (') adapted for mounting to a surface () of a surgical room. A bulb () is disposed in the lighthead. A processor () in the lighthead is operatively coupled with the bulb for controlling an intensity of light of the bulb and is adapted to generate a lighthead status signal representative of a first status of the lighthead. A control apparatus () is in operative communication with the processor () in the lighthead. The control apparatus receives the lighthead status signal and selects a set of control algorithms from among a group of algorithms based on the lighthead status signal for controlling the lighthead. The lighthead status signal includes information regarding a size of the lighthead, an intensity of light from the bulb, a condition of the bulb, a level of current applied to the bulb, a level of current applied to the bulb, a level of voltage applied to the bulb, an internal temperature of the lighthead, and the presence of one or more of a video camera, a surgical task light, and a controllable ambient light. A human-readable display device () is provided for displaying information relating to the lighthead status signal. Several levels of redundancy are provided in the control system to minimize the potential loss of control due to failures. In that regard, the lightheads are operable when the control apparatus () fails.

Surgical lighting control and video system

A medical suspension system () includes a ceiling plate () configured for mounting to a support structure (). The ceiling plate supports a device (), such as a lighthead or video monitor, which is mounted to the ceiling plate via an articulated arm () and a spindle (), which is centrally mounted to the ceiling plate. A second device () is mounted to the ceiling plate, not through the spindle (), in the conventional manner, but via an adapter plate (), which is mounted directly to the ceiling plate. This increases the number of devices which are readily carried by the support structure without extending the spindle length which conventionally occurs when additional hubs are added to the main spindle.

Medical suspension system with two spindles

A radiolucent surgical table is provided with a patient support member and includes a low shadow accessory interface profile formed by a plurality of interconnected curved surfaces disposed along the outer edge of the patient support member for selective attachment of a range of medical accessory devices. A clamping apparatus secures associated accessories to the outer edge, which has a top recess and an essentially planar and non-vertical side surface slanting inwardly from top to bottom and terminating in a flared lower edge extending beyond the bottom of the patient support member. The clamping apparatus includes an upper jaw member which has a downwardly projecting lip formed to conformably engage a section of the top recess. A lower jaw member is also included and has a hook region formed to surroundingly engage a section of the flared lower edge. The upper and lower jaw members are joined.

Surgical table and clamp system

A lighting system () suited to use in an operating theater includes one or more lightheads (), and an ambient lighting system () having one or more light emitting components (). The light emitting components are mounted within a canopy assembly () of the lighthead and arranged around a central support hub () to provide even illumination throughout the room. The canopy assembly includes a canopy and a canopy extension ('), which is removably mounted to the canopy, allowing the ambient lighting system to be retrofitted to an existing lighting system.

Ambient lighting system for surgical lights

A lighting system () suited to use in an operating theater includes one or more lightheads, each having a housing () and a bezel () extending therefrom. A light source () is disposed within the housing. A handle () extends below the bezel and is rotatable relative thereto. A lighting control input means (), associated with the bezel allows adjustment of the intensity of light emitted by the light source. A sterile cover () can be placed over both the handle and the bevel, allowing the input means to be manipulated by pressure on the cover with the thumb of the operator's hand, while simultaneously grasping the handle in the palm and fingers.

Ergonomic controls in a surgical lighting system

Optical commutator

A medical lighting system is provided using electrodeless metal halide lamps and fiber optic light pipes to provide illumination to a plurality of medical appliances from a remote light source. In a first embodiment, multiple surgical lightheads and light utility outlets are illuminated from a remote lighting source. The single light source is further used in conjunction with multiple surgical lightheads, light utility outlets, and surgical task lights in operating or examination rooms. In a further embodiment, a remote metal halide lamp provides task lighting to an examination room in combination with standard incandescent ambient lighting. In further embodiments, multiple operating and/or examination rooms are supported by a single remote light source. By locating the light source remote from the end light consumers and providing optical fibers therebetween reduced size, heating, and other benefits are enabled in medical examination or operating rooms.

A fluid disinfection or sterilization system includes spray nozzles ( ) for spraying an anti-microbial fluid on the exterior of an endoscope ( ) supported in a microbial decontamination chamber ( ). The endoscope includes interior lumens which are microbially decontaminated by flowing anti-microbial fluid from outlets ( ) through the lumens. A port ( ) is connected with a leak detector. In order to ensure that the proper leak detector and anti-microbial fluid ports of the disinfection or sterilization system are interconnected with the proper lumen ports of the endoscope, a tethered connection assembly ( ) is provided. The tethered interconnection assembly includes fittings ( ) which are uniquely configured for interconnection with an appropriate one of a high pressure port, a low pressure port, and the leak detector port. Fittings at the other end of the tube assemblies ( ) are configured for interconnection with appropriate corresponding ports of the endoscope. The tube assemblies ( ) are interconnected by a tether ( ) to which plurality of plugs ( ) for plugging appropriate ports of the endoscope are also connected. A tag ( ) identifies the model(s) of endoscope that the tethered connection assembly is to be used with and provides a diagram showing the proper interconnection pattern.

Fluid connection system for endoscope reprocessing with controlled leakage

A surgical boot assembly for an operating room table includes a surgical boot, an adjustable support arm securable to the table, and an adjustable clamping assembly attaching the surgical boot to the adjustable support arm. The adjustable support arm includes an attachment, a support rod having an end pivotally attached to the attachment such that the support rod is pivotable about the end relative to the attachment, and a locking cylinder having a first end pivotally attached to the attachment and a second end pivotally attached to the support rod. The locking cylinder is infinitely adjustable over a range and can provide an assisting lift force. The locking cylinder preferably includes a cylinder, a piston within the cylinder and having an integral valve, and a separating piston within the cylinder. The piston and the separating piston divide the cylinder into first, second, and third portions. The first and second portions are selectively in fluid communication through the integral valve and each contain an incompressible fluid to provide rigid locking. The third portion contains a compressed gas to provide an extension force.
