A device for attenuating energy along a conduit, comprising a first member having an essentially semi-cylindrical outer surface and a first cavity extending substantially longitudinally from end to end. A second member having an essentially semi-cylindrical outer surface is provided, with the outer radii of the first and second members being the same. The second member also has a longitudinally extending cavity. When the two members are secured to one another to form the device, the two cavities face one another to form a bore that extends from end to end and has respective opposed tapered portions having a circular cross-sectional configuration that decreases in diameter inwardly. The bore also has a central, cylindrical portion disposed between the tapered portions and having an axial length that is no greater than one third of the overall axial length of the device.

An energy attenuation device for a system adapted to convey pressurized fluid through tubing of the system, comprising a multi-part conduit section for receiving fluid from, and returning fluid to, the tubing, the conduit section including a central portion, two intermediate portions respectively disposed at opposite ends of the central portion, and two end portions respectively disposed at an end of an intermediate portion remote from the central portion. The central portion has at least one aperture in a peripheral surface and a first diameter that is less than a second diameter of the intermediate portions. The end portions have a third diameter that is less than the second diameter. The end portions are received at least partially in the tubing sections. A hose section is disposed about the central portion and at least part of each intermediate portion.

An energy attenuation apparatus in fluid communication with tubing adapted to convey a liquid under pressure, and including a liquid-conveying unit in fluid communication with the tubing and having a diameter greater than the tubing diameter. The liquid-conveying unit has four chambers in series, at least one of which contains a tube, wherein an annular space is formed between the inner peripheral surface of the unit and the outer peripheral surface of the tube. One end of the tube is connected to and in fluid communication with an inlet or outlet end of the chamber, and another, free end is spaced by an open gap from the outlet or inlet end of the chamber. The tube has at least one aperture in the free end and/or on the peripheral surface thereof for providing fluid communication between the tube and the chamber.

A second, free end of the tube is spaced by an open gap from the outlet or inlet end of such chamber. The tube has at least one aperture in the free end and/or on the peripheral surface thereof for providing fluid communication between the tube and its chamber. A second tube can be disposed in the remaining chamber.
