A reduction device includes a housing defining an input chamber configured to receive exhaust from a power source, an output chamber, an exhaust channel configured to direct the exhaust from the input chamber to the output chamber, and a longitudinal axis. The reduction device also includes a treatment unit disposed in the exhaust channel and along the longitudinal axis. The treatment unit is configured to at least partly remove pollutant species from the exhaust. The reduction device also includes an attenuation component disposed in the housing and radially outward of the treatment unit. The attenuation component is fluidly connected to the exhaust channel, and is configured to attenuate a range of frequencies corresponding to operation of the power source. Additionally, the exhaust channel prohibits exhaust entering the input chamber from exiting the housing without passing through the treatment unit.

Noise attenuation components

A two-stage mixer may include a guiding element and a mixing element. The guiding element may be configured to be fixedly mounted to an interior of an exhaust conduit. The mixing element may be configured to be fixedly mounted to the interior of the exhaust conduit in a position downstream from the guiding element. The mixing element may include a central disk, a plurality of mounting arms extending radially from the central disk, and a plurality of blades extending radially from the central disk. At least one mounting arm of the plurality of mounting arms may include a fin extending therefrom, and at least one blade of the plurality of blades may include a fin extending therefrom.

Two-stage mixer

A reductant impingement device includes a proximal end having an impingement pin with a convex surface; and a distal end having a body concentric with a longitudinal axis of the impingement pin. The distal end includes a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface. A plurality of inner channels connects the first surface and the second surface, and a plurality of outer channels connects the first surface and the second surface, where the plurality of inner channels are disposed in a circular array at a first radial distance from a longitudinal axis of the impingement pin, and the plurality of outer channels are disposed in a circular array at a second distance from the longitudinal axis of the impingement pin.

Channeled reductant mixing device

An aftertreatment module is disclosed for use with an engine. The aftertreatment module may have an inlet housing at least partially defining an inlet passage for exhaust, and at least one mixer disposed in the inlet passage. The aftertreatment module may also have an outlet housing at least partially defining an outlet passage for exhaust, and a catalyst housing removably connected between the inlet housing and the outlet housing. The aftertreatment module may further have a plurality of catalyst substrates configured to be mounted in the catalyst housing, to receive exhaust from the inlet passage in parallel, and to discharge exhaust to the outlet housing in parallel.

A mixing element positioned at an exhaust inlet of a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) module is provided. The mixing element includes a base plate having a plurality of perforations thereon. The mixing element also includes a plurality of vanes connected to the base plate. Each of the plurality of vanes is spaced apart from one another. The plurality of vanes includes a plurality of flaps extending radially from the base plate. Each of the plurality of flaps has a planar configuration. The plurality of vanes also includes a plurality of blades attached to the plurality of flaps. Each of the plurality of blades extends axially with respect to an axis of the exhaust inlet. The blade has a curved configuration.

Mixing element

A mixing element positioned at an exhaust outlet of a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) module is provided. The mixing element includes a base plate having an upper surface and a lower surface. The base plate is configured to deflect a portion of a flow of a fluid around the upper surface thereof. The mixing element also includes a plurality of vanes attached to the lower surface of the base plate in a spaced apart arrangement. The plurality of vanes is configured to induce a swirling effect in a flow of the fluid received therebetween.

System and method for mixing of fluids

An exhaust aftertreatment system including a housing with two or more inlets configured to receive separate entering exhaust streams from an engine. The system may include two or more first exhaust treatment devices, each configured to receive one of the separate entering exhaust streams in a first direction. The system may further include two or more redirecting flow passages configured to combine the separate exhaust streams into a merged exhaust stream that flows in a second direction about 180 degrees from the first direction and an intermediate flow region configured to divide the merged exhaust stream into two or more separate exiting exhaust streams. The system also may also includes two or more second exhaust treatment devices, each configured to receive one of the separate exiting exhaust streams in a third direction about 90 degrees from the second direction.

Exhaust aftertreatment system

An exhaust aftertreatment system including an exhaust flow area, a first bank of one or more exhaust treatment devices in fluid communication with the exhaust flow area and a second bank of one or more exhaust treatment devices in fluid communication with the exhaust flow area. The first bank may be arranged in parallel with the second bank and inlet of the first bank is configured to provide greater flow resistance to the exhaust than the inlet of the second bank.

A combustion device for an exhaust treatment system is disclosed. The combustion device may have a fuel injector configured to inject fuel toward an exhaust flow. The combustion device may also have an ignition source configured to ignite the injected fuel. The combustion device may further have a deflector configured to redirect at least a portion of the ignited fuel towards a center of the exhaust flow.

Flame deflector for emissions control system

A reductant dosing system for a machine having an engine and an exhaust system is disclosed. The reductant dosing system has a tank configured to hold a reductant, a dosing arrangement, and a supply passage connecting the tank to the dosing arrangement. The reductant dosing system also has a purging arrangement configured to direct purge fluid to at least one of the dosing arrangement and the supply passage, and a valve configured to allow reductant to pass from the tank to the supply passage and to inhibit purge fluid from entering the tank.

Reductant dosing system having anti-aeration device

A system for mixing exhaust gas components is provided. The system may include an exhaust passage and a substantially enclosed distribution chamber disposed within the exhaust passage. The distribution chamber may include an outer wall defining a chamber volume and at least one opening disposed in the outer wall configured to provide fluid communication between the chamber volume and the exhaust passage. An additive supply device may be configured to supply at least one exhaust gas additive to the chamber volume.

Exhaust gas mixing system

A method and apparatus for controlling the ratio of ambient air to recirculated gases in an internal combustion engine, wherein an gas injector includes a intake air conduit defining a ambient air flow path, an actuator connected to the intake air conduit, a recirculated gas conduit operatively coupled and disposed within the intake air conduit defining a recirculated gas flow path and a valve apparatus operatively coupled to the intake air conduit and recirculated gas conduit. The valve apparatus includes; a shaft, a throttle valve coupled to the shaft and in fluid communication with the ambient air flow and a recirculated gas valve coupled to the shaft in fluid communication with the recirculated gas flow. The shaft rotates one of the throttle valve and the recirculated gas valve independent of the rotation of the other one of throttle valve and said recirculated gas valve.

Method and apparatus for controlling the ratio of ambient air to recirculated gases in an internal combustion engine

A system of operating an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The engine includes an engine block, an exhaust air system in fluid communication with the engine block, the exhaust air system having an exhaust air conduit, an intake air system in fluid communication with the engine block, the intake air system having an intake air conduit, and an intake air compressing device, an EGR system extending between the exhaust air system and the intake air system upstream of the intake air compressing device, and an ECM in communication with the EGR system. The EGR system includes an EGR injector, the EGR injector includes an EGR injector valve, an intermediate portion of intake air conduit, a throat portion positioned coaxially with the intermediate portion of intake air conduit. The throat portion extends radially inwardly of the intermediate portion of intake air conduit, the throat portion having a predetermined minimum diameter, and an end portion of an EGR conduit intersecting the intermediate portion of intake air conduit, the end portion of EGR conduit having an open end positioned coaxially with the intermediate portion of intake air conduit, the end portion of EGR conduit positioned upstream of the throat portion.

Exhaust gas venturi injector for an exhaust gas recirculation system

Braking systems for use with internal combustion engine have in the past used a variety of mechanical mechanisms to activate the braking system in addition to the conventional cam, lifters, pushrods and rocker arms. Many of these systems fail to provide the option of controllably and modulatively varying the sequence and amount of the opening and closing of an intake or exhaust valve relative to a piston position in a cylinder bore. The present invention provides an electronic control system outputting an discrete control signal, an opening device for unit actuation of each of the pair of valves independently. The electronic control system is programmable to respond in a first predetermined logic pattern for conventional operation of the engine at which time each of the pair of valves are in the closed position during the compression stroke. The electronic control system is programmable to a second predetermined logic pattern to vary the operation of the valves associated with the respective bore in the generally open position during the compression stroke when the piston in near the top dead center position. The preestablished logic pattern controllably, sequentially and modulateably actuate the device for unit actuation, moving each of the valves independently between the open and closed position to effectively resist the movement of a piston from a bottom dead center position to a top dead center position.
