A method of preventing or treating a subject suffering frominfection or its associated symptom includes administering a therapeutic effective amount of a HMGB1 inhibitor to the subject. A method of inhibiting toxin-induced cytotoxic effect in colon cells includes contacting the colon cells with an effective amount of a HMGB1 inhibitor.

This invention provides the sequence of 5,299 nucleotides from thegenome. There are four proteins, ProA, ProB, MmpA, and a cytochrome oxidase homolog, as well as a partial lipoprotein signal peptidase homolog at the carboxy terminus, coded for in this cloned fragment. The antigenic properties of these proteins allow them to be used to create a vaccine. An embodiment of this invention includes the creation of a DNA vaccine, a recombinant vaccine, and a T cell epitope vaccine. Another embodiment of this invention includes the use of serological diagnosis techniques.

The invention provides compositions and method for stimulating an immunological response againstsubspecies(MPT). The compositions comprise at least five recombinant immunogenic components. The immunogenic components can be MPT antigens or DNA polynucleotides encoding MPT antigens, or combinations thereof. MPT antigens used in the invention include MPT 85A, 85B, 85C, 35 kDa, super oxide dismutase (SOD), MptC, MptD and ESAT-6 protein. The method comprises administering the composition to an animal in an amount effective to stimulate an immunological response against MPT bacteria. The method is of benefit to any animal susceptible to MPT infection, but is particularly beneficial for ruminants.

An array is formed with a protective cover on a substrate. The protective cover is patterned to produce an array of openings to the substrate. Desired material is deposited on the substrate through the openings. The protective cover may then be removed. In one embodiment, the protective cover is a conformal polymer, such as di-para-xylylene. It may be removed by mechanical peeling. The material may be biological material such as DNA. The protective cover may be used to prevent non-specific hybridization in inter-spot regions by performing hybridization with the cover still in place. Hybridization that occurs in such regions between the spots may be removed with removal of the protective cover.

Protective coating for array material deposition

Provided are compositions and methods for stimulating an immune response againstsubspecies(MAP). The compositions include a recombinant polypeptide that contains from its N-terminus to C-terminus a C-terminal fragment of MAP protein Map3527, a Map1519 protein amino acid sequence, followed by an N-terminal portion of Map3527. The method comprises administering the composition to an animal in an amount effective to stimulate an immunological response against MAP bacteria. The method is of benefit to any animal susceptible to MAP infection, but is particularly beneficial for ruminants.

This invention discloses the DNA sequences coding for the Actinobacillus pleuropneumonia hemolysin(s). It further discloses a method of producing the A. pleuropneumoniae hemolysin(s) from recombinant cells. It also provides a method of using the hemolysin(s) antigen as a protective immunogen against porcine pleuropneumonia.
