Desktop power use behavior may be detected while a portable information handling system or any other type of battery powered information handling system is operating on external power such as an AC adapter. The desktop power use behavior may be detected by monitoring one or more power usage parameters to detect usage characteristics that indicate a battery powered information handling system is being operated in a manner that is similar to operation of a desktop information handling system. Upon detection of desktop behavior, one or more processing devices of the information handling system may respond by taking one or more desktop use response actions.

Systems and methods for monitoring and characterizing information handling system use behavior

Methods and systems for power supply unit (PSU) current sharing may include an In-System Power Monitoring and Management (IPMM) module monitoring an output value of a first power supply unit in a multi-power supply system. In an embodiment, the IPMM module may monitor an output value of a second power supply unit in the multi-power supply system. Additionally, the IPMM module may monitor an output performance parameter for the multi-power supply system. Furthermore, the IPMM module may adjust a setting of at least one of the first power supply unit and the second power supply unit for optimization of a current sharing performance parameter of the multi-power supply system. In various embodiments, the setting may include a droop voltage value, a distribution impedance value, or a set voltage increment value of at least one of the first power supply unit and the second power supply unit.

An AC-to-DC power adapter provides DC power to an information handling system at a first higher DC voltage or a second lower DC voltage based upon a power state of the information handling system. For example, approximately 19 Volts DC power is provided if the information handling system is in an on state or if the information handling system is charging a battery. An isolated voltage is output from the high impedance power delivery network to components of a secondary side of the alternating current adaptor system. An output voltage level of the alternating current adaptor system is alternated in response to the transition in the power state identification of the information handling system.

Further, the output voltage supplied to the second connector is at a second value, greater than said first value, when the output of the first circuit is above a second threshold. The output voltage supplied to the second connector is at a third value, between said first and second values, when the output of the first circuit is between the first and second thresholds.

Methods and apparatus for regulating output voltage of a power supply system

A power supply system includes a battery and a power management system. The power management system is coupled to the battery and to an external power source that is operable to charge the battery using a first charge level. The power management system is operable to determine that a battery power level of the battery is greater than a first predetermined level that depends on a battery storage option and, in response, disable power from being supplied from the external power source such that power is supplied from the battery until the battery power level is below the first predetermined level. The power management system is also operable to determine that the battery power level of the battery is less than the first predetermined level and, in response, charge the battery with a second charge level that is less than the first charge level until the battery power level is above a second predetermined level that depends on the battery storage option.

A voltage regulator for use with switchable graphics processors. The voltage regulator includes a graphics processor mode selection control input. The battery management unit is operable to determine whether a battery controller is operating when the cell is coupled to an information handling system that includes the battery controller.
