This disclosure provides systems, methods, and devices for wireless communication that support low noise amplification of mmWave radio frequency (RF) signals. In a first aspect, a low noise amplifier includes a first stage amplifier; a second stage amplifier; a configurable first stage bypass coupled between a first input and a first output of the first stage amplifier; and a configurable second stage bypass coupled between a second input and a second output of the second stage amplifier. Other aspects and features are also claimed and described.

A radio system architecture includes a receiver having multiple sub arrays in a phased array, the multiple sub arrays configured to perform carrier aggregation (CA) and multiple input multiple output (MIMO) signal processing, and provide independent beam management for multiple radio frequency (RF) signals received at each of the multiple sub arrays, and a data processor configured to receive signals from the receiver and extract information regarding wireless communications.

Phased array antenna architecture

Intermediate frequency filter for millimeter-wave carrier aggregation

Aspects described herein include devices and methods with chain routing of signals for massive antenna arrays. In some aspects, an apparatus is provided that includes a first millimeter wave (mmW) transceiver having a first port, a second port, one or more antenna elements, a plurality of chain mmW transceiver ports, and switching circuitry. The switching circuitry is controllable by control data to route portions of a merged clock and data signal and a merged control and data signal between a first route between the one or more antenna elements and the first port and a second route between the one or more antenna elements and the second port and a third route between the first port and the plurality of chain mmW transceiver ports and a fourth route between the second port and the plurality of chain mmW transceiver ports.

Split chaining for large phase array systems

An apparatus is disclosed for a hybrid wireless transceiver architecture that supports multiple antenna arrays. In an example aspect, the apparatus includes a first antenna array, a second antenna array, and a wireless transceiver. The wireless transceiver includes first dedicated circuitry dedicated to the first antenna array and second dedicated circuitry dedicated to the second antenna array. The wireless transceiver also includes shared circuitry that is shared with both the first antenna array and the second antenna array.

The apparatus also includes a power amplifier having an output coupled to the first inductor, a low-noise amplifier having an input coupled to a first terminal of the third inductor, and a fourth inductor having a first terminal and a second terminal, wherein the second terminal of the fourth inductor is coupled to a second terminal of the third inductor. The apparatus also includes a switch coupled between the first terminal of the third inductor and the first terminal of the fourth inductor.

Interface for a transceiver

An apparatus is disclosed for mixing signals with a multi-mode mixer for frequency translation. In example implementations, a multi-mode mixer includes a supply voltage node, a ground node, a first data signal coupler, and a second data signal coupler. The multi-mode mixer also includes a mixer core and a current control switch. The mixer core is coupled between the first data signal coupler and the second data signal coupler. The current control switch is configured to selectively enable or disable flow of a current through the mixer core. The first data signal coupler, the second data signal coupler, the mixer core, and the current control switch are coupled together in series between the supply voltage node and the ground node.

Multi-mode mixer

The present disclosure provides an apparatus that includes a first mixer circuit configured to convert between an RF signal and an IF signal based at least in part on an local oscillator (LO) signal. The first mixer circuit is electrically coupled to a first node that is configured to receive the LO signal and a first bias voltage, a second node that is configured to receive the RF signal or the IF signal, and a third node that is configured to provide the IF signal or the RF signal. The apparatus further includes a second mixer circuit electrically coupled to a fourth node configured to receive the LO signal and a second bias voltage, the second node, and the third node. The second bias voltage has a voltage level that is offset from the first bias voltage.

Large-signal GM3 cancellation technique for highly-linear active mixers

An apparatus is disclosed for time-division duplex dynamic transceiver isolation. In an example aspect, the apparatus includes an antenna, a power amplifier circuit including at least one power-amplifying path, a low-noise amplifier, and a time-division duplex interface circuit. The interface includes at least one transmit node coupled to the at least one power-amplifying path, a receive node coupled to the low-noise amplifier, and an antenna node. The antenna node is coupled to the at least one transmit node, the receive node, and the antenna. The interface circuit is configured to connect the at least one transmit node, the receive node, and the antenna node together at both a first time and a second time. The interface circuit is configured to isolate the receive node from the antenna node at the first time and isolate the at least one transmit node from the antenna node at the second time.

Time-division duplexing using dynamic transceiver isolation

Receiver circuits that can be reconfigured to generate test signals in a wireless device are disclosed. In an exemplary design, an apparatus includes a mixer and an amplifier. The mixer downconverts an input radio frequency (RF) signal based on a local oscillator (LO) signal in a first mode. The amplifier, which is formed by at least a portion of the mixer, amplifies the LO signal and provides an amplified LO signal in a second mode. In another exemplary design, an apparatus includes an amplifier and an attenuator. The amplifier receives and amplifies an input RF signal in a first mode. The attenuator, which is formed by at least a portion of the amplifier, receives and passes an LO signal in a second mode.

Reconfigurable receiver circuits for test signal generation

A frequency synthesizer circuit is disclosed. The frequency synthesizer circuit includes a phase and frequency detector. The frequency synthesizer circuit also includes a first charge pump and a second charge pump, each coupled to the phase and frequency detector. The frequency synthesizer circuit also includes a loop filter that includes a resistor and at least two capacitors. The second charge pump is coupled between the resistor and a capacitor that creates a zero in a transfer function of the loop filter. The frequency synthesizer circuit also includes a voltage controlled oscillator that produces an output frequency based on an output of the loop filter.

Capacitive multiplication in a phase locked loop

A bandgap voltage reference circuit and methods for generating a bandgap reference voltage are disclosed. An operational amplifier receives first and second input voltages from a first and second current path, respectively. A buffer stage is coupled to an output of the operational amplifier and generates third and fourth voltages on the first and second path. A temperature dependent current is generated using the third and fourth voltages in combination with a first diode, second diode and a resistor. A third current path mirrors the temperature dependent current and a temperature independent voltage is generated for the bandgap reference voltage in the third current path using the temperature dependent current in combination with a second resistor and related diode.
