A backlight assembly includes a light source unit, at least one block driving unit, a controller unit and a noise removing circuit. The light source unit includes a plurality of dimming blocks generating light. The block driving unit drives the dimming blocks. The controller unit controls the block driving unit. The noise removing circuit is connected to the block driving unit and the controller unit to prevent noise from being applied to a reset terminal of the block driving unit.

A method of driving a light source including a light-emitting block includes generating a luminance representative value based on an average grayscale value and a maximum grayscale value extracted from an image signal corresponding to the light-emitting block. The method further includes detecting a predetermined pattern of the light-emitting block, generating a compensation control signal based on the predetermined pattern, generating a compensated luminance representative value by compensating the luminance representative value based on the compensation control signal, and driving the light-emitting block based on the luminance level of the light-emitting block corresponding to the compensated luminance representative value.

A method is for correcting pixel data provided to a display apparatus. The display apparatus includes a display panel having a plurality of pixels and a light source module having a plurality of light-emitting blocks. The method includes determining a pixel luminance that is a luminance of light provided to one of the pixels; and generating correction data to correct the pixel data, the correction data being generated based on the pixel luminance and a maximum emission luminance that is a maximum luminance of the light emitted from one of the light-emitting blocks.

A display device includes; a signal control unit which receives a plurality of image signals and determines a plurality of representative image signals from the image signals, a plurality of lookup tables, each of which is configured to store a plurality of light data signals corresponding to the plurality of representative image signals, a plurality of light-emitting blocks configured to provide light according to the respective light data signals, and a display panel configured to display an image corresponding to the plurality of image signals, wherein the signal control unit determines an average luminance value of the plurality of image signals, selects one of the plurality of lookup tables according to the determined average luminance value, reads the light data signals from the selected lookup table and provides the light data signals to at least one of the plurality of light emitting blocks.

Disclosed are a display device and a method of driving the same capable of improving display quality and reducing the manufacturing cost. A display device includes a display panel displaying images corresponding to image signals, a light-emission block supplying backlight to the display panel, and a backlight driver outputting a light data signal for determining luminance of backlight. One of a plurality of linear gamma curves is selected from a lookup table in accordance with average image luminance during prescribed frames, and the duty ratio of the light data signal is determined on the basis of the selected linear gamma curve. Each of the linear gamma curves represents the relationship between the average image luminance and the duty ratio of the light data signal.

A backlight unit includes a plurality of light source units arranged in a matrix form, a light source controller outputting a dimming signal to control a brightness of the light source units and a latch signal to control a light source unit row of the plurality of light source units to be sequentially driven according to a predetermined scanning period, and a plurality of light source driving units connected to light source unit columns of the plurality of light source units and supplying driving signals corresponding to the dimming signal to the light source units in the light source unit columns.
